The Pittsburgh Penguins made some moves to switch up their top two forward lines on Monday. The deal sees some chemistry changes and adds some more offense to the lineup.
Deal 1: The Pens sent forwards Tomas Plekanec and Steve Downie to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Martin Havlat and a 5th round pick. Plekanec was a tough one to move as he has a very good contract next season, but we really like Havlat and with Mr. Glass coming off a career best season we like the way he looks coming into next year. Downie was a gamble that we took, and we feel he will turn out, but we decided we would let someone else roll the dice on him next year.
Deal 2: The Pens sent veteran wingers Ian Laperierre and Daniel Alfredsson to Anahiem in exchange for Brad Richards and a 2nd round pick. We love Alfie's game but he is getting older and we feel we added a player in his prime who can put up solid numbers and play responsible defense. We also like laps a lot but we have some younger guys who can step in and play his role next season.
