They eff your back and hips up like you wouldn't believe. But from the little I've worn them they're comfortable, albeit for a short time.

They're uncomfortable until they're broken in, and then they're like wearing moccasins.

As far as I'll go for the cowboy look is a denim shirt and jeans(and highly unlikely on those on a hot day). No on the boots or Cowboy hat. It's stuff you would pull from the dressup box to me.

I grew up wearing those things. As a child growing up on a ranch I didn't want to wear anything else. I dread wearing them now. Those boots were designed in the 1800's for riding horses with a western saddle. They are far from comfortable. You won't even see cowboys wearing them now for everyday use. If they are riding, or out on the town. But for just working around the ranch? They wear shoe's. Even when I used to Rodeo I would wear running shoes and just put my boots on when I got behind the chutes. First thing I took off, besides my chaps, when I was done competing.

Every winter I plan on buying some good boots because I have to trudge through snow to get on construction sites. There are some decent boots out there that would be considered cowboy boots, but aren't flaming like the ones Jerry Seinfeld was wearing in the Jon Voight's car episode.
Snakeskin or crocodile? Are you going to wear leather pants with that?

A few things to consider when you're looking for cowboy boots.
1) you really do get what you pay for. I've got two pairs of custom boots from Alberta Boot company, and they are comfy as hell. Of course breaking them in is key.
2) Heel hight is key. My opinion is do not go for the full hell. The roper style boots have a much lower heel and are a lot more comfortable.
3) If you tuck your jeans into your boots you deserve to be punched in the face.
Oh and I have to agree with 4x4. I'm not a fan of the snakeskin or alligators. Bullhide is the way to go.
Of course I do have a pair that is EMU and Kangaroo, but anyone who's seen EMU (or ostritch) leather, knows that it is still VERY understated when compared to snakeskin or alligator.

The only people you really see doing that anymore are Buckaroos or working cowboys or ranch hands. It is a kind of throwback style a portion of the ranch hands still around like to wear. Goes with older style shaped cowboy hats, suspenders, leather vests, neck rags, handle bar mustache's.

I wouldn't worry about cowboy boots unless you're planning to use them to ride with, as that is why they are designed the way they are.
A good pair of lace-up ropers is much more comfortable for everyday wear.

No, I'd say most of the guys I see doing that are the huge tools, who wear a denim shirt with a leather vest that is two sizes too small, and a bolo tie that says "Calgary Stampede" on it, and go around thinking they look like a cowboy.

Damn, I forgot about that.
But to be fair, it's usually the white, one size fits all, straw number that they give out on Stephen ave for free every summer.

lol. I've been known to wear the freebie straw hats they give out with 24s of Bud every summer. Perfect for rafting or fishing or working outside. Good until the end of August.

Lace up ropers suck. They were all the rage in the early 90's when they first came out. But people quikly tired of having to tie and untie those stupid things. The only people who wear them now are buckle bunnies.

He He, it's true.
Of course the "Bodacious" buckle is also a staple of the early 20's, small town raised (but not farm raised), rediculously loud and annoying rye drinkers union. Often found at bars around SAIT, and easily recognizable by the fact that none of their t-shirts have sleves.
