PS3 online connection problems
I've been trying to connect my ps3 to my Telus 2Wire modem, but have had no luck neither wired nor wireless.
I want to use a wired connection as it's more reliable.
When I perform an Internet connection test I get these results:
Obtain IP Address__ Succeeded
Internet Connection_Failed
Playstation Netwrok_-
UPnp _____________-
NAT Type__________-
The connection to the server timed out
(80028E02)
Googling the error message hasn't been any help.
The weird thing is when my PS3 has the ethernet plugged in, my network summary looks like:
Home Network
Local Interfaces
Ethernet: 0
Wireless: 4
But when the ethernet is plugged into my laptop my network summary shows:
Home Network
Local Interfaces
Ethernet: 1
Wireless: 3
So my ps3 isn't recognizing my ethernet, even though it has in the past when I was running it from a shaw modem.
Sorry for the long post, but I'm just trying to be very thorough.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

I found a problem with mine at first was I wasn't firmly plugging in my ethernet cable on my PS3. Make sure it's in there tight and the little indicator light is on.

Nope, the lights are on at the PS3 and at the modem.

Although I had to look up what that is, I can say thats not the problem.
Currently there is no security on my modem as I have heard that it does complicate the PS3 online setup. I'm hoping to figure this out and then set up passwords etc.

Oh wait, you're not using a router? Just going straight through modem to ps3?

With Telus's new modem, it has a wireless router built into it. So, it's merely plugged into the wall, and all our computers are running wirelessly off it. Unfortunately my PS3 gives me the error from my original post whether it is wireless or through ethernet.

If all else fails you can put the ps3 in the routers dmz zone when using wireless...usually you're not supposed to do that because of a chance of getting hacked but that shouldn't be a concern for the ps3.
When using wired I don't know, it should be pretty automatic...double check the connections and make sure you're selecting wired for the ps3.

Thanks for the help HT but I'm not to tech savvy with all this. How do I set it to dmz zone?
Also, I'm positive my connections and selection menu process is fine. This worked perfectly a month ago when I was running it from a Shaw modem, but alas no luck with my Telus modem.

Does the Telus modem/router have a limit to the number of connected devices?

If possible i'd like to see what the back of the modem looks like hooked up with all the ethernet cables.
Also, usually routers have a setup page accessed by typing in the ip address of the router in an internet browser..i know linksys is 192.168.1.1 and dlink is 192.168.0.1. Try typing in one of those and see if it takes you to the setup. This is where you'd forward ports and assign ip addresses to your computers.

I've got to the setup page (with Telus you simply have to type 'home' into your browser) that's where I'm getting my info in my first post.
And no Windom I don't think there is a limit, but even so, I'm not tying to connect more than 4 devices which is what I've done in the past.

It's the Siemen's Modem/Router that's shipped to most telus xDSL subscribers.

As for wireless, I get the exact same error as in my original post, whether the connection is wired or wireless.

Unfortunately searching the internets, error # 80028E02 is not a recognized error by Sony and no one seems to have a solution. Argh, I just want to play some online NHL 09!

Have you tried disconnecting all your computers, and connecting only the PS3 to the Telus modem?
Or maybe unplugging the modem's power and leaving it off for 5-10 minutes before trying again? I've had that technique help a few times in the past with older Telus D-Link ADSL modems.
