Default Sweden grabs World Bandy Championship

I know this is old, but I have never heard of this 'sport'. Bandy? Maybe it will catch on here!

So lemme get this straight, it's hockey with:

less padding
bigger ice
bigger nets
different lines
more players
really stupid looking chin straps

Maybe this is where the NHL is getting all their ideas about how to increase scoring.

i imagine very high scoring games. you're shooting a hockey puck at a soccer net, when do you not score?

isn't Bandy just field hockey, but played on ice, which would make it ice hockey, but not so much?

very confusing

That was what I was thinking. What an odd 'sport'...

Play hockey or go home. At least it isn't ringette.
If you are going to play a sport, go all the way
and play hockey.

This sport has been around for decades and decades - it's big in Scandinavia and Russia (obviously, places where you can freeze a sheet of ice the size of a football field).

Well there ya go. Canada plays too, which shocks me. I have never heard or seen this game before.

It is basically football (soccer) on ice if I understand it correctly. Give or take. Wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandy

That looks like fun. Them guys have some mad puck skills with those little sticks.

It looks to be non-contact, but you could end up with some wild collisions with all those players on the ice.

The Flames will still not shoot the puck and Dion would still miss the net if we were on the PP

I think it's played with a ball, not a puck. I'd love to see a game live - given the cold, there would probably be a lot of drinking and general merriment involved.

Dion Phanuef would be the leading scorer!(Sorry, I had to with how wild his shots can be!)

it would be impossible NOT to score on that net. Top corner every time, it would be so hard to save. These games must end with scores in the 50's and 60's

Weird sport. Would suck to be the goalie, they look totally useless.

Apparently Canada is a member of the World Bandy Federation and in Russia they call it "Russian Hockey"
