Iggy surges past Harper in the Polls

The Liberals deserve to get pounded last election for putting the 3rd best guy in charge with Dion. Harper better enjoy his time at the top because at this rate it is not going to last.

The new poll found 36.7 per cent of those surveyed would vote for the Liberals under new leader Michael Ignatieff if an election were held today. That compares with 30.2 per cent for the Conservatives and 15.5 per cent for the New Democratic Party.The results showed a major shift from a January Ekos survey that showed the Conservatives with 36.2 per cent support compared with 32.6 per cent for the Liberals and 14.3 per cent for the NDP.

I am an Ignatieff fan, its about time the party moved back to centre. There was no way I could support that party with Dion at the helm. What a frakkin disaster he was.

I do not expect him to roll out more detailed plans for the country until the Fall or later, no one wants another election any time soon. His speeches and ideas have been right on target for me. He sounds like a leader who will be a uniting influence in the country, which is a far cry from the last few Prime Ministers we have had.

Harper's strategy is going to be to hold onto parliment until this recession starts to fade, take credit for the relative stability of Canada against the World and creating policies that allowed Canada to float through this in relatively good shape.

As we've seen before, polls mean nothing at the midpoint of the election.

The dumbest thing that any leader can do right now is trigger an election.

There will be way less vote splitting in the next election, I see Jack Layton as a massive failure, and his antics will probably cost the NDP anything that they've won. The Green Party is a political non entity as long as radical Liz is in charge.

The main battle ground as always will be in Toronto and Quebec.

Your right on most of these points. Problem for the PC's is that in Quebec they are actually behind the NDP despite their constant pandering for votes there. That is some cause for concern whether there is a recession or not.

Yep, I do not see Harper finding a way to recover the ground lost in Quebec. I think Ignatieff will be able to hold on to most of the federalist votes. Many economists are still saying that Canada will have a slower recovery from the recession than the rest of the world, and that does not bode well for Harper. If I am not mistaken, hasn't Canada trended left in elections coming out of a recession?

honestly I don't see the Liberals wanting anything to do with governing during the recession, if they make their move its when idicators start to become very positive.

At this point, no matter what they do they won't win Quebec. That province is populated by Klingons.

I do have to give credit to Ignatieff though. He has done a great job of getting control of the party and increasing their fund raising efforts.

They still lag far behind the conservatives in terms of a war chest, but at least we won't see the fuzzy nostril cam speeches again.

It will be interesting to see how he fights an election under pressure. He is far less experienced politically then harper, but a debate between those two might be a big step forward in getting rid of the Green's and the NDP who along with Dion managed to drag the debate down to levels not seen since the drunken Captain Crunch family get togethers of the late 80's.
