FAC test
Looking to get my FAC in the future, and I have a few questions about the test.
I have the textbook that explains everything, but frankly there IS a lot of material, including a lot of things I will never need to know.
So my question is, what exactly DOES the test ask? I don't want to memorize 'history of firearms' if I'm not going to need to answer any questions.
Or explain why percussion caps were a safety hazard.
EDIT: Also, is the test multiple choice?

Because I have nothing meaningful to contribute..
Apparently a google image search for guns and girls takes me a bit too literally.

Well a good start would be to figure out what you`re actually taking.
There is no such thing as an FAC anymore.
It`s a PAL (Posession and Aquisition License).
Just a heads up.
As for the test itself, from what I recall it`s pretty common sense stuff.
Make sure you know the regulations for storing, transporting etc, and the safety rules and you`ll be fine.

My PAL has expired and it was several years ago when I got mine. The first year they changed from FAC to PAL.
From what I remember they taught you the course and then you took the test the next night, or else it was a full day course where you took the course and then did the test. When I did it you had some easy multiple choice questions, not many, maybe 20-30. Then you had a hands on test to show how you handled the firearm in certain scenarios. I only got my license because I worked at a Canadian Tire that sold firearms and the new rules stated that only peeps with a PAL could show and sell a firearm.
I'm not sure how it goes now, but for the first couple of years it was a pain in the butt to sell firearms. I had to get the persons PAL and another piece of ID, write all the info down, call Miramchi, wait forever, then walk the person to the door once the gun was sold. It took a few hours to do.

Yeah, I realized last night when I went to bed that the terminology got changed.
Either way, you'd think the Canadian Government could provide more information about the test.
Finally found this.

Looks pretty simple. I was worried I was going to have to answer all sorts of stupid questions about things that I won't even need to know.
Is the rest for restricted and prohibited firearms just as easy?

Just know all the different action types, and be able to demonstrate that you know safety procedures regarding them. Know how to cross an obstacle and how to properly transport a firearm etc.
Also, there are some acronyms to know from the book...........but it is pretty simple.

I knew absolutely NOTHING about firearms before I took my course. I ended up with 100% on both written tests and 100 and 98% on the handling / practical tests. It is really all very easy. If I remember correctly, the written tests were a mix of multiple choice and true/false. Read the books once or twice and know ACTS and PROVE inside out.
*EDIT*: Actually, now that I think back on it, there are a few tricky questions about specific laws, so know those really well as well.

I must say, the ACTS, and PROVE system are a pretty good idea.
Easy to remember, and easy to apply.

Lethbridge store. 441! When they introduced the new legislation to keep the law abiding gun enthusiasts at bay we bought a tonne of firearms from a lot of other stores because we had a few peeps with their PAL. We probably increase our inventory by 10x. I'd say it was a money maker.
Now that I hear what some people are saying about the test, I'm remembering more about it. It certainly was very easy. You'd have to be an idiot or just playing horrible at tests to not pass it. Contact your local Police station or RCMP detachment for more information on taking the test. At least thats what we did back when they changed it from FAC to PAL.
