Hockey Pool Advice - this one is unusual.
Looking for a bit of advice. Guy at work has been running this pool for years... and I have never entered because I hate the format - but I may try this year.
Details:
Must make one 'pick' from each team.... must have only
6 LF
6 RW
6 C
8 D
2 goaltenders (1 point per win, -1 per loss, 5 for SO)
1 coach (125 points awarded only if fired during the season, otherwise zero)
1 enforcer(1 point per PIM, minus 5 per point scored)
I.E. If I take Jarome Iginla, I can take no other Flames and have used 1 RW roster spot.
Anyways.... due to the bizarre format, pick the right enforcer and a coach to be fired and you pretty much win.
Any thoughts on which coaches are most likely to be fired during the year?
I don't think I watched the Coyotes once last year.... is Carcillo the real deal, or is he now a scorer instead of a goon? Who might be a sleeper pick here?
Need a tender with a lot of SO - wins not that important.
Any thoughts on these, or any other suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

I'd say AV in Vancouver is gone if they start slow.

Tell him to shove it. That is the weirdest setup I've ever seen.
That or go totally off the board with some strange picks and hope for the best.

I have done that for 5 years - lol - and may do the same again.
AV might be a good choice...

Personally I would take the Canucks coach.... Since there is a new GM ... I would think he won't be wait very long if they struggle...
As for other picks I would take a goalie really quick as for example Rangers goalie had ~ 90pts last season (37 wins and 10 shutouts)....

Wow
my advise is pick a different pool. All the hockey is irrelevant, you just need to read the papers to see who gets fired.

A different pool it may be. I am just getting tired of the crying that I don't enter it because it's too hard... that I'm not smart enough(Flames fan amongst the Enemy), etc.
This is the team I drew up tonight.
If there are glaring holes, please point them out.
Remember... If I replaced, for example, Iggy for Phaneuf - I woul have to swap out a defenseman elsewhere for a RW.
Anyway here is the list I have right now:
MON - Alex Kovalev RW
PIT - Evgeni Malkin C(or Sid - can't decide)
WSH - Alex Ovechkin LW
NJD - Zac Parise LW
NYR - Henrik Lundqvist G
PHI - Riley Cote (enforcer)
OTT - Dany Heatley LW
BOS - Zdeno Charra D
CAR - Joni Pitkanen D
BUF - Jason Pominville RW
FLO - Jay Bouwmeester D
TOR - Thomas Kaberle D
NYI - Kyle Okposo RW
ATL - Ilya Kovalchuk LW
TBL - Vinny Lecavalier C
DET - Nik Listrom D
SJS - Joe Thornton C
MIN - Brent Burns D
ANA - Ryan Getzlaf C
DAL - Marty Turco G
COL - Paul Stasny C
CGY - Jarome Iginla RW
NSH - JP Dumont RW
EDM - Lubomir Vishnovski D
CHI - Bryan Campbell D
VAN - Alain Vignault (Coach to be fired)
PHX - Olli Jokinen C
CBJ - Rick Nash LW
STL - Brad Boyes RW
LAK - Alex Frolov LW

carcillio would be a terrible goon.
Instead, don't look at a fighter, rather look at stay at home defencemen

I think Phoenix brought in McGrattan to be their goon. From what I read, Carcillo was told to quit it with all that extra stuff because they think he can actually play and so they don't want him in the box. Cote is a good pick, you put him in there. Jared Boll would be a good pick, but he's the guy nobody knew about last year and I'm sure there will be another one of those this year. May even be our very own Brandon Prust if he gets a full-time gig.
Craig MacTavish, Tom Renney or Peter Laviolette would be the top three candidates to get fired. If one of those teams starts poorly, as in 0-6 or 2-8 sort of thing, they'll be gonzo. Past that point it gets a bit more dicey but I have no doubt one of those guys will be gone this year. Vigneault won't go because Luongo is boucing back to save his ass this year. Defence-first, trap-it-up, slow-it-down system will be back in effect from two years ago.
