Maybe it's a good thing he is looking for a divorce lawyer? That's possible too.

His reasons for needing a lawyer are his own.
troutman is a lawyer and might have someone in his office who can help, at least maybe direct you to someone they know. You can PM him, and here is his firm's website:
www.nwcalgarylaw.com <--I had to actually check my softball jersey for that.
And I think Vladtheimpaler is also a lawyer, so he might be able to help.

Personally, I do my best to stay clear of these kinds of files but a number of lawyers in our office work in the family law area too. Feel free to PM for more info.

And fredr is a lawyer. Man, theres lots of lawyers on this board. I wonder how many billable hours per day evaporate into the ethereal ether of CP each day?

Before my wife I dated a divorce lawyer for some time. I think the best thing she ever said about her profession was that it was recession proof. If anything when times get tight and money is a problem (lack of of money), more folks get divorced as money is the number cause of divorce.
Also, if you divorce a divorce lawyer you'll probably get screwed. Great girl but I am glad I moved on!

troutman's office can do a fine job. They helped me out, and I have nothing but good things to say about them.
And then he'll invite you into a hockey pool and practically hand his money to you. Heck of a guy.

I guess I should elaborate, it isn't for me (who would marry a Canucks fan after all?) but rather a family friend whose husband decided that he would have a long, drawn out affair behind her back, essentially to the point of having two families, introduced the other lady to his kid and broke it to his soon to be ex right before Christmas. The guy is absolute scum but it really isn't my place to say much more than that.

I've had a family friend go through something similar. Two things: Get her some form of psychological assessment. The shock by something as terrible as this will no doubt impact her, both physically and mentally. Divorces are terrible, mean battles and she needs to either be in top shape to fight it or know she is unwell and let other's fight it.
The other thing, hit this SOB as hard as you can in the courts. Don't give any ground in the initial steps. If you compromise early, you get screwed. If you are looking for a divorce lawyer, make sure they are an absolute demon.

This is the worst advice in the world if they have children together.
When parents try to win, children lose.

That is the point that she is at, she is a strong person, but she is pretty shaken about the whole incident. The problem is that she has a kid with him and even though he is scum he still is her father, so it is a very difficult spot that she is in.
I think she just wants it to end more than anything.

I hope troutman's referral can help out. If not, I may be able to give you a couple of names. I know one or two sharks, but I tend to refer to collaborative lawyers as much as possible. I really think the kids don't need to be destroyed by their parents' divorce.
30 years later, the only name my mom calls my dad is still a**hole... Bitter much?
Luckily I have a decent relationship with both, but it's almost a fluke that that even happened.
