No, I wouldn't. I created a thread here about three years ago with a similar question, and while numbers were pretty high for secession, they weren't high enough. I don't support it.

The PC's will never put it to a vote, an independent Alberta means they would actually have to fight an election once in awhile. Alberta within Canada means they can always blame eastern Canada and the Grits for their problems, and never face the possibility of defeat.

A viable separatist party is off the table as well, Albertans are only allowed to vote PC, all Albertan's know this and abide by this principle.

I would think about supporting if we could take 'toba, the dirty saskies, and the hippies out west, i could see us splitting from the east and doing quite well, but i dont think it will happen.

Separation is not an option for me. I'm a third generation Albertan, and a very proud Albertan. My grandparents on both sides were here before the roads were, not to mention railroads. The railhead was in Regina at that time. But I'm also a third generation Canadian, and until this fiasco, a proud Canadian as well. Nevertheless,I want to remain both an Albertan and a Canadian. I no longer argue with people who want to separate though because I can't refute their stance very effectively after this Jack & Gilles BS.

I wouldn't (although I don't live in Alberta right now).

An independent Alberta would be like an independent Texas... it would eventually be swallowed up by the States. While that might be appealing to some, it wouldn't solve anything. The same issues would still exist.

While independence might look good now, it could be a sketchy thing once the cash cow runs dry. Being a landlocked country whose most valuable resource is non-renewable is not a great position to be in.

If oil runs dry, it's not going to be too rosy in Alberta regardless of what country governs it.

No, and really this is a stupid question. I think that the entire western alienation argument is false to begin with. Its a made in Alberta problem...BC doesn't seem to suffer from this and neither does Saskatchewan or the Yukon.

I'm a Canadian through and through, even though I have no love for the people in charge, I love the country.

However I would certainly think long and hard about a party that has the same kind of influence and the same kind of national hammer as the Quebec Bloc.
