Default Die Telemarketers! Do Not Call List now available

Took them long enough! It doesn't help me anymore. I cut my telus line and now i'm using a cell as my home phone. It was ridiculous near the end. At least 5-6 calls a nite and 90% of incoming calls were from telemarketers.

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics...932346-cp.html

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, which operates the list, says the system is working fine, but that by 11 a.m. EDT it couldn't handle the volume.
A CRTC spokeswoman says 200,000 people had registered by 9 a.m. Her advice is to keep trying, but adds that even if you don't get in immediately, you can register at a later date.
Once a number is on the list, telemarketers will be barred from dialing that number, or face a hefty fine of up to $15,000 if they do call. There are some exceptions, such as pollsters, researchers and government agencies.

Too bad this regulation doesn't stop newpaper solicitation. The Calgary Herald is the worst.

It was down for the first 2 hours, and it took me until now for it to finally work.

True, but you can request them to include you on their internal do-not-call list.

Not sure why anyone would do this, but if you are phoning in to register your number you have to phone from the number you want blocked.

They stopped bugging me when I went on a rant demanding to speak to a supervisor; that I didn't appreciate being called every week- especially seeing as I am blind.

The website doesn't even work and when I actually get through it claims my confirmation number was entered incorrectly, typical Canadian government stuff right here.

True, but do the get hardware to handle the 3 million people per day that will sign up the first week, or the 2000/day every day after that?

This list has too many exceptions to make it useful. This will only block a small percentage of the honest telemarketers... and Zero percent of the dishonest ones. It won't block the vast majority of calls we already get anyway.

Use primus VOIP, it's way more fun then this list... I just forward some number back to thier front desks so when they call me, thier call system picks up. Some I set to ring for ever and never answer, tie up thier lines and keep them trying to call at different times trying to find a time that works...

I want a law that makes it illegal to post fake numbers in your caller ID though that would clear up the vast majority of junk calls..

That actually worked at my parents house. We got called, I answered and said no. They asked why and I told them that as long as the employed the services of Bruce Dohbiggen my family would not subscribe and to stop calling until he is no longer part of the Herald. They never called again.

We have Shaw home phone and if you use the *65 or something you can block phone #s yourself. I don't know if it costs anything but we've been using it for a few months now and the number of telemarketers has greatly decreased.

Thank you sir. You are a scholar and a gentleman. Can't wait till this kicks in and they'll stop annoying me. I get 2-5 calls a day from these losers.
