Default GAME 11: MONTREAL at CALGARY

Last game was a character win for the Stampeders and the most important was they beat their evil rival from the North, the Edmonton Eskimos. Friday, they will play against the Montreal Alouettes, the only winning team in the East. Anthony Calvillo is one of the best QB in the league this season so we will see a good battle against the Als offense vs Stamps DBs. Calvillo likes to pass especially when their RB Avon Coulbourne is not expected to play against the Stamps. Calgary is banged up right now with Burris(turf toe injury), Nik Lewis(hip injury), Joffrey Reynolds(back) and Ryan Thelwell but all except Thelwell are expected to play.

OFFENSE: Like I mentioned most of their offensive players are banged up but will play. Jermaine Copeland had a huge game in the last half against the Eskimos. He feels good after the game and he thinks that game is the start. Are we going to see a different Copeland(compared to the first half)? I hope so. This season he struggled but I am hoping the Eskimos is the start. In that case we will start to see Rambo getting some openings as well, and if Lewis is not hurting, he too will have a breakout 2nd half. Brett Ralph is always there when needed. Teyo Johnson is starting to pick up his game and starting to get a hang of the CFL game. What about Reynolds? He was not used as much last game maybe because he was hurting big time. The offensive line is getting better and better every game.

DEFENSE: Awesome game by Mike Labinjo(I am surprised he did not get a weekly award this week), Shannon James had a great game as well(another surprise that he did not even win any award). The pressure on QB last week was great and I am hoping it will continue as season goes. Jojuan Armour if he is healthy and playing will get his natural outside LB position because of MLB Saleem Rashad expected coming back. Maybe he will play better. I noticed the last two games against the Eskies, Armour was not that good. THe DBs are starting to pick up their game. Safety Wes Lysack is getting better with opportunities. I can see Calvin Bannister getting benched again because he's been struggling especially against a pass happy QB.

SPECIAL TEAM: No problem with both kicker Sandro deAngelis and punter Burke Dales. Coverage team are good as well but the problem lies on the blocker and especially the punt returner. Howell is still injured and Nate Curry was released. Thank god for that because he was brutal. He doesn't seems to be motivated playing or he was just plain slow. In comes R Michael Jennings who played for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants. I am not familiar with the guy but i heard he is a speedster. Maybe he will be our answer to Tristan Jackson, Ian Smart or Dorsey. I guess we will see.

The Stamps will have an easy time if they keep pressuring Calvillo. If he can't pass then there is not a lot of options for him. Stamps should watch for Ben Cahoon.

On offense, we should have a balance offense with running, passing short yardages, long bomb and so on. Expect Copeland and Rambo to have a big game.

I'm going to this shindig tonight, how pissed will people be if I bring an Umbrella?

On a scale of: "Slightly Annoyed" to "Homicidal Rage"?

I can see this one being an old-fashioned shootout. Calvillo will shred the Stamps secondary, while Cope and Rambo will have big games. Ken-Yon Rambo....what an awesome name.

Stamps win 38-34

Isn't TSN HD immune to the black-out?

The whole point of the blackout is to encourage people who are sitting on the fence to actually go. If they do lift the blackout, they won't do so until right at gametime, in order to minimize the number of people who decide they'll avoid the weather and watch it on TV.

Though I think Troutman is right about HD. In the year or so I've had HD, I've never found a Stampeders game to be blocked out, and sometimes I've switched over to the standard feed to see that it's been blocked out.

I think the game is blacked out but they will lift it if the game is close to sold out.

Lineup changes: OL Jeff Pilon not playing due to injury. Sigh.... Markus Howell is back returning punt again.

wet field and cold weather. it will be interesting game for passing as the ball will be wet. 1st 2 possessions for Montreal only produced 1 good run by Imoh.

Sandro's streak of successful field goal stops at 14. Second possession for the Stamps. They started at their own 3 yards but Burris marched them all the way to the end zone. Reynolds ran some good yardage, Nik Lewis caught good pass and yardage. Touchdown pass from Burris to Brett Ralph. Lewis was a good decoy as defenders are all watching him making Ralph open on the end zone. Calgary 7-0.

Montreal's Damon Duval 21 yard field goal hit the goal post. No point so Calgary are still ahead 7-0.

Other than Dominic Dorsey and the guy from Edmonton does anyone in the league have a dangerous returner? Maybe Smart in BC. I get you don't like him but I'm not sure I agree why. He seems to be about as good/mediocre as any other returner in the CFL.

Here is the CFL link to kick return AVG:

http://www.cfl.ca/statistics/league/...urn/year/2008/

Howell is at 21 per return. Dorsey, Reynolds and Smart are all at 25 per return. But Reynolds has significantly fewer returns.

Howell is tied with Armstead and ahead of Dressler (SSK), Smith (HAM) and Reid (WPG).

As for Punt returns:

http://www.cfl.ca/statistics/league/...urn/year/2008/

He's at 9 yards per. That is about even with everyone else but trailing Dorsey (as everyone is).

Unfortunately I think you may just hate Howell for some reason as the stats suggest he's average at best like most of the returners in the CFL right now.

After the first half, Calgary is ahead 7-0.

Good defense by Brandon Smith on the end zone. Duval kicked a field goal and hit the goal post again but this time it bounced in the middle of post. Calgary 7-3.

Calgary's new returner Jennings returned the ball for over 10 yards. Calgary fumbled and Als recovered but there is a flag.

Whoa..... offside penalty for Montreal. Calgary ball.

Stats are misleading because it doesn't add the balls he didn't catch and let it bounced either on the end zone or close to the end zone. I don't hate the guy but he is so predictable. I probably seen all the Stamps game on TV this season so I know why I am very unhappy with the guy. What i can stand is having to watch him with 9 yards or less on every punt return or let the ball bounced. It is very rare to see the guy gets a good return... maybe 1 in every 3 games.

By the way I am not complaining about the kickoff return, I am complaining on punt return so i don't need your kickoff return stats.

Montreal just punted the ball and guess what?? Enough said.
