I've actually always wondered why his music is played so much after all the ... unpleasantness. Hearing that song doesn't so much get me pumped up as much as it makes me think of child predators.

I think most people are oblivious to who Gary Glitter is and what songs he's done. Even if they remember the news story, they most likely won't place the connection between his music and him.

...it's not like he's Michael Jackson or something.

I guess that depends what era you grew up in. I think every single one of my friends and sisters and brothers friends had his album. He wasn't popular as a person, but his album was HUGE!! There isn't one person in the world that has been to a sporting event that hasn't heard Rock n Roll, though the younger generation won't know who he is. If you grew up in the 70's you definately knew who he was, funny thing is I don't remember ever seeing him on t.v. or even knowing what he looked like. He may be free, but he'll probably re-offend and end up back in jail. Problem is in England he got 2 months for molesting a minor, and he's back in England. I like the Michael Jackson reference though! These 2 shoulda made a boys club with Pee-wee Herman and that principal dude off of Ferris Bueller.

I dont think they should stop playing his music, I still love hearing billie jean or thriller despite what MJ did. I dont think it takes away from how great his music is. Just dont respect him as a person but good music.

So? He didn't earn it at the time? What makes him different than others with records. Do we stop giving jobs to people with criminal records? Don't we give inmates a monthly cheque or is that the USA only?

He is a re offender and indications show that he is a high possibility to re offend again. I just don't feel like someone who hasn't shown any signs of remorse should be in a situation to live an easy life.

This is a good point. I'm not sure where you draw the line but I think it's a sliding scale. Someone gets a DUI? Meh, especially in the States, who doesn't have one or two? Assaulting your significant other? Well, that's a bit worse I suppose. Maybe I'll download their album instead of buying it. Weapons offences? Drug dealing? Well, if those mattered I'd have to give up on rap and hip hop almost entirely. Diddling kids? That's a different story, I suppose, and somewhere around here I personally have to draw the line. But that's just me.

I would say that the difference might actually be that Gary Glitter's defense faced competent prosecutors. There were so many holes in the MJ case that no jury could've found him guilty.

Someone may have better info than me, but I think some teams have chosen not to play that song in light of what's happened (I know I haven't heard it at GM Place or the Coliseum for years).

R&R Pt II was the Devil's goal song for many, many years including all three cup runs.... however, according to the Devil's PR guy, the NHL changed the way they were paying royalties. It used to be that they would pay $X for unlimited usage of library Y of music. The PR guy said this changed to pay/play. So, if my Devils ever scored a goal (which is rare), they would play RRPt2 and Gary would get some $$$.

Given the fact that Gary has used his wealth to travel the world and buy little girls, I don't think it right to padding this guys bank account. So I think the Devils did the right thing in dropping the song. Several other NHL teams did the same thing... the NHL hasn't made a blanket ruling banning the song like the NFL did and has left it to each organization.

BTW - if you think that Gary paying for the sexual services of these two 12 year olds is the only time he's molested kids, think again. He's been chased out of other countries for his predilection for pre-teen twat.

Wasn't there a member of the Flames organization on Calgarypuck awhile ago, that was asking for our input on music at the dome and specifically said they won't play Gary Glitter?
