Default Case law question for the CP oracle

Just wondering what would be the best way to look up some previous decsions from the courts. Just looking for some case law and was wondering if there are any tips or suggestions on where to look.

You can search AB QB judgments here:

http://www.albertacourts.ab.ca/Court...1/Default.aspx

AB Court of Appeal:

http://www.albertacourts.ab.ca/Court...4/Default.aspx

Supreme Court of Canada:

http://scc.lexum.umontreal.ca/en/index.html

Most lawyers have subscription services like Quick Law where they can search databases covering many jurisdictions and topics.

Canlii.org also has a searchable database of Canadian court decisions that is free. It does not have quite the coverage of the pay services but it's not too bad for free.

Canlii ftw. I should add that I will often use Canlii as a starting point before using the more robust pay services at my disposal.

As onetwo_threefour noted, Canlii doesn't exactly have the widest coverage of case law out there. I also find that decisions will sometimes show up on the Court website or in the pay services before it arrives on Canlii. The Canlii database also doesn't go as far back in time as the pay services but for recent decisions (or Supreme Court of Canada decisions) it's pretty good and getting better all the time. Finally, I will note that the search functions on Canlii aren't as awesome as the pay services and it can sometimes be difficult to really drill down to the topic you want.
