Default Halo 3 Midnight Sales - Biggest Entertainment Launch in History! $170 million

I know for sure that almost every Futureshop in Canada is opening at midnight for Halo 3. Does anyone on here know of any other stores in Calgary that are doing this?
I'm hoping to have a backup list of places to go if it turns out Futureshop doesn't have enough copies.
Although, in all reality, I would imagine that they will have thousands of copies per store. Microsoft is going to try to make as much money as quickly as they can on this one.

I don't understand the attraction of Halo, it's as if it was a game made popular only by the legions of console gamers who have never played better FPS (ie: multiplayer on PC) before.

I remember when Halo 1 was still in development years ago and I thought it looked great, then Microsoft bought the studio who was making it and turned it solely into something to sell their console with.

I dont either, but afterall people do bend over for the craziest things these days. Halo 1 was groundbreaking yes, uhh like a decade ago. Halo 3 is nothing extraodinary like everyone is making it out to be. The fact is, $$$ talks. Microsoft has so much to advertise and push this game likes its the greatest thing since the invention of the telephone - and thats why you even see 7-11s selling them. Yes thats right, I was in my local 7-11 this evening to pick up some lotto tickets and right behind the counter were a bunch of Halo 3 pinups advertising that they will have the game on the shelves tommorow 12am.

Heck they even the halo slurpee cups and coffee mugs and Halo pop beverages on sale.

I'm no super-nerd, my life's priorities are well laid out, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited about this game. I think it's funny that so many people out there, on almost any message board you visit, feel the need to express that they think the Halo series sucks.
If you don't like it, don't buy it, plain and simple.
Halo is in no way as advanced or easily controlled as PC FPS but the fact is that it is probably the best FPS series on any console system.
And to say "Halo 3 is nothing extraordinary like everyone is making it out to be" seems a bit presumptuous. Judging from the reviews it has received so far it is, in fact, extraordinary. Most reviews are saying that it actually lives up to the hype and that it is the most "next generation" experience to come out so far on any console.

It's weird how passive-aggressive this response is yet my thread was started because I clearly did not know that each Futureshop was receiving 1200 copies.

It's generally because Halo and hype for Halo is a subject that annoys a great deal of people that passive aggressivism and negativity pop up against people who seem to like it.

I can see that. If I don't like a product (Britney Spears for example) and it's thrown in my face day in, day out, I get pretty annoyed too.

Well i know i won't be in line to get it.Not because i don't want to but because my second 360 just went down with the red circle of death a week ago and once again i am waiting 6 weeks for a new one.Glad i didn't preorder a copy since i am only 6 games into my hockey season and never even got to put in two worlds yet.Got both games for my birthday on the 12 and 360 died on the 14.Gotta love xbox.Too bad it is really the only game in town. The wii is aweful and the ps3 game selection is brutal so once again here i sit wating to play.

I will be buying a copy for sure but not at midnight. From what I have read there was an article in the Sunday paper. Halo 3 has received a great review. Its worth the dollars to buy this game.

I'm in the same boat, unfortunately, I preordered Halo 3. I sent my 360 mid August and I'm hoping to get it back soon. At least I'll have the box art to look at.

I try to fill my videogame withdrawal by playing my ps2 and NHL 2K6. It's 2 years old, but I've never screamed at the tv playing NHL 2007 than 2K6. Still a pretty good game.

I'll buy it once I finish a game or two I have now (no time to play of late with all the travel I'm doing).

But it's averaging 9.6/10 on reviews. 9.5 from gamspot and IGN and even a 5/5 from PS3 loving gamepro.

Likely. Bioshock is the game of the year though. Not sure what Halo 3 is going to offer to be at all interesting.

Maybe another 3 hours campaign?

The Mountain Dew "Game Fuel" flavor Halo 3 tie in was over the top IMHO.

Overall, I'd have to say that Gears of War >>>>>> Halo. Like people have said, it just seems to be your standard FPS - not quite sure what makes it so good.

I'm still not sure what people saw in Bioshock - I played it to the 85% mark and just got bored of it. Didn't bother to see what happened to Fontaine.

That said, I'll play Halo. Just a heads up to people that it requires a system update before playing.

I keep seeing the commercials for it, with all the die cast figurines.

All I can think of is the Mr Plow commercial from The Simpsons that looked like it was done by an art school dropout. Seriously, what the hell is going on with that Halo commercial?

EB games is doing the midnight thing as well. I played the first one through a couple times and I played the second one through once and thought it was pretty bad. I will play the third one through just to finish them off, it's a decent series with a good story line, but no where near the hype that surrounds it. I'd rather do my gaming on PC anyway.

What does 'system update' mean? Can I play the game if I'm not hooked up to Live?

If you have an XBox 360 you will need a system upgrade to play Halo #1 (Xbox game).

I believe the upgrades can be found on the Xbox website, could be wrong.

You'll be able to play offline without an update. But if you want to go online (Xbox Live) you will require an update. Somepeople don't like this since it often breaks a bunch of stuff such as media playback and some 3rd party hacking junk.
