Default FTA Satellite

Are we allowed to talk about this here? Has it been talked about in the past?

Hmm, I don't know if it is allowed but if you have any questions I can help a little.

As long as the subject is kept abstract; i.e. no links to sites with illegal materials on them, that sort of thing.

This is what I know or it could be hearsay.
The original FTA with the big dish is legal as it is picking up free channels but the equipment is expensive and there isn't much in the way of free anymore.
The small dish FTA taps into the signal from Dish or Bell. There are a couple of different ways to do this. Either get a box made for this and hook it up to your computer so you can download the latest firmware or get a Dish or Bell box and have the Smart card programmed so it will pick up all the channels.

Both methods require some effort and it can be a consuming hobby especially with Bell, and probably Dish Network, replacing the smart cards and updating their codes on a regular basis and sending signals to lock up the illegal boxes. You have to stay one step ahead to get consistent programming.

Ya guys, I have been into FTA for awhile now and am loving it. It's a great hobby but it can be challenging. I have hooked up several people up with it (including my dad) and he isn't the best on a computer. This has given me some headaches as I have had to walk them through the process several times but all in all it has been a good move.

I got it becuase in Nunavut where I teach, basic cable is $70/month and the quality is crap. I have invested my time and money into FTA becuase up there it really comes in handy, especially for the Flames games!!!!

If anyone has any questions about it, just let me know.
