I hope it's new jerseys... I'd like to design new ones myself, but I don't have the artistic knowhow to get thoughts onto something that can be looked at without it looking like a 5 year old drew it.

I just saw that the bid deadline is Aug. 15, so perhaps the hitmen are just announcing that they are putting in a bid.

I was wondering how they could ensure that the Saddledome will be available for that week, because God-willing there could be some Western Conference Final games to be played there at that time.

That's why it was a joint bid with Edmonton
edit: Oh yah, that was for the World Juniors. Never mind.

The Hitmen could easily have hosted the 2007 Memorial Cup if they had bid on it. I know they are concerned about conflicts with the Flames, but honestly, that can be worked around. Even if it means a Memorial Cup game in the afternoon, and a Flames playoff game in the evening.
At any rate, going rumour is that Dave Lowry will be taking over as the head coach of the Hitmen, as Kisio relinquishes his coaching duties.

That bid is World Juniors. And Calgary could easily have hosted that themselves. Just means a Flames road trip between Xmas and New years.
Though I understand the point in the joint bid, I think it would have been cooler if Lethbridge could have been the second venue for a Calgary hosted tournament. That said, the thought of all games being played in 17,000 and 19,000 seat arenas will greatly appeal to HockeyCanada. I'd say it's a foregone conclusion that Calgary-Edmonton will host that tournament.

Kisio is going back to GM. Lowry will be head coach.
http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...6-35f184c51d00
Calgary Hitmen general manager Kelly Kisio is expected to announce that he is stepping down as the club's head coach during this afternoon's media conference called by the Western Hockey League club.
The 48-year-old Kisio took over the GM reins beginning with the 1998-99 season and assumed the dual role four seasons ago. Associate coach Dave Lowry would appear to be the leading candidate to take over the head coaching reins.
And, hopefully they cancel the annoying radio ad campaign - this is hockey, not monster trucks.

Something tells me that the organizers of the Mem Cup wouldn't be too thrilled if there was a big Flaming C at Center Ice of their Championship tournament.

They'd deal. Besides, we all know the odds of making the third round of the NHL playoffs are slim. As was proven in 2010, and could happen again in the future, painting the ice could likely be done as the Flames would be out. Even if not, put a Flaming C in one half of the centre ice faceoff circle, and the Memorial Cup logo in the other. Advertise the Flames during the Memorial Cup, and the Memorial Cup during Flames games.

when they should bid for mem cup is when the new arena for the flames opens up and have it at the saddledome. I know its not for a few years but that would work.
