My 3-1-1 Jihad Agenda: More "Slower Traffic Keep Right" Signs
Hello all,
I've recently reached the end of my wits trying to drive through this city and being consistently stuck behind drivers going 10 under the speed limit and sitting in the left lane (oddly enough these people seem to frequently talking on their cell phone). So my hope is this... Get everyone I know to call 3-1-1 and kindly suggest the city puts more of THESE signs:
on major causeways and freeways, especially the ladder. Suggest road names that you notice this problem and effect you based on your location in the city. My major complaint was Crowchild Trail.
I know many here hold traffic rules and etiquette near and dear to their hearts. Working at the city myself(not with roads), I know that 3-1-1 calls are given the highest priority, especially if you are kind enough to leave your name and contact info with them. My call took only 3 minutes and the information was very kindly received.
It is a mystery to me why this city does not take advantage of these signs more, as other large cities do(especially in the US). So, if you would be so kind as to call 3-1-1, I think we could sway some of the powers that be to spend the few hundred dollars it would require to let us all have a less frustrating commute. Good night, and good luck.

Which is why I make hundreds of threads like this, right?
If you don't like the idea, don't bother. It's a suggestion more than a complaint.

After driving around Calgary while there for the oil show, I've come to the conclusion these signs won't work. There's just too much traffic for the roads there.

It would help if people would follow that rule on Deerfoot. You shouldn't be passing people in the slow lane.
PS: especially since there is a posted sign that says "Slower traffic keep right"

You seem to believe that these people who seem to be unable to do the current speed limit, a speed limit I might add that is posted on signs very similar to those which you're suggesting, will give more serious consideration to the new sign.
Why?

Crowchild is a bad example because it comes to a regular intersection at 24 av NW and you can't have "slower traffic keep right" when you can exit on the left.

Or the same thing south all the way to glenmore. I agree its dumb but its tough for the city to put those signs on and than expect anyone to be able to exit by turning left going from the far right lane to the far left lane.

So glad to see such useful input. What would we do without you?
As for the op, don't bother bringing it up around here. I ended up battling half the board when I brought it up and the general consensus is that since it's not illegal to "slow", guys like me, who like to do a bit more than the speed limit, can 'f' themselves and wait for the holier than thou crowd that feels the need to slow down the rest of society, purely on principle (afterall, the speed limit is the speed limit).
Left lane? Fuhgeddaboudit. Stop trying to apply logic to Calgary roads. Especially not here.

I think you have that rule backwards, if the slow moving people were in the right lane like the sign says, it wouldn't be necessary to pass on the right.
I constantly pass people on the right. why? because they are going 10 under in the left and middle lanes and seem to refuse to move to the right lane. As tho going in the right lane is a bad thing, 'I'm not a slow driver i'm not going in that lane' they think. Great leaves the right lane the most empty most of the time so I pass everyone in it.

i have no problem with it ... but that doesnt mean the left lane is for going OVER the speed limit. the right lane is if you need to go below the speed limit, the left lane is for passing those cars who are going slower in the right lane.
the left lane is NOT a lane where the speed limit no longer applies.
by the way, i hate tenative drivers more than agressive drivers. at least agressive drivers are long gone and out of my way. damn i hate people who arent sure where they are and what they are doing.

Whiny babies in Calgary.
If anything, you should send us in Vancouver some charity slow traffic keep right signs. I swear to god our passing lane is the shoulder lane - I have never seen anything like it. It's freaking scary sometimes. We also enjoy to turn into the wrong lane, not signal, signal when not turning, and generally have problems seeing over the dashboard and out the windows.
Please send signs (yield to traffic in circle signs would help too)

Finally, someone shares my hatred for having to share ladders with slow-moving people.
Seriously, why do you think these people who annoy you so much by driving 'too slow' in the left lane will stop doing so because of more signs? Are they going to have some sort of epiphany on the road?
I think, in the end, you might find your situation resolved far more easily if you just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the drive.

I'm sorry if your life is so boring that the best part of it is the commute.

Wow, take a deep breath buddy ... I'm sorry that I'm not so high-strung that something as simple as arriving at my destination 2 minutes later than normal is a problem. I mean, not everyone can enjoy that type of stress in their lives.
I look at it this way, either you can be all stressed out and high-strung, pissed off at the inconsiderate dolts in front of you who are going to cause you to spend a WHOLE TWO MINUTES more in your car, or you can not let it stress you out - because there's stuff in life more worthy of your energy .... me, I'll take the "ladder".
