Default Sword of Truth TV Series

"Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi is teaming with Disney & ABC Studios on a live-action weekly fantasy series aiming to premiere this Fall reports Reuters.

Entitled "Wizard's First Rule," the series is based on Terry Goodkind's best-selling epic fantasy series "The Sword of Truth" currently eleven books long.

Raimi and Robert Tapert are executive producing the series. Production on twenty-two episodes is slated to begin in May.
Loved the first few books in the series, but it seemed to grow stale after four or five. Should be an interesting TV series, though. It's about time they got something fantasy-oriented back on the tube. Everything is either modern day or sci-fi.

What was the last fantasy-esque series? Xena?

The series really did fall on it's face in book 5. Stopped being a good story and became some sort of pseudo political rant highlighting the virtues of libertarianism or something. Really turned me off the books in general.

If you don't count Beast Master, Xena and Hercules were the last big name fantasy series. Disturbingly, both were directed at times by Sam Raimi. Perhaps he'll cast his brother in the Sword of Truth series as a lovable comic relief character, for a change.

Its a decent series, but and I'm sure its just all the fantasy series starting to blend into my mind, and the fact that their all really the same, but I found so many similarities between it and the Wheel of Time.

Given the violence and S&M undertones in parts of Sword of Truth series, hard to believe it is a Disney production. Will be interested to see how it translates.

The series is a good read - the political overtones you sense are Objectivism and it is ideologies that Ayn Rand professes. The series was good enought that I read it all, but I don't think I will be rereading the entire series any time soon.

I loved the first few books in this series, but I agree that it got pretty stale afterwards.

It doesnt matter, this has failure written all over it. If this is a series of books that you enjoy then I would recommend that you never watch this show.

Sam Raimi will ruin what you love.

Expect Bruce Campbell to be in it with his requisite, always ready one-liners.

How Sam Raimi continues to find work absolutely stuns me.

The only saving grace here is that I'm not really a fan of fantasy, of this author or these books in general, not really my taste.

But if I was a fan of these, I'd be seething with rage over this.

Good series. It pains me to see that Spider Man's director and Disney are involved though....I'm sure it'll be ruined but I'll probably download a couple episodes out of curiosity.

Yeah I have no idea who would hire him after the financial debacle that was the Spiderman trilogy.... oh wait.

Sam did a great job with spiderman... Who would have done better?

I'm painstakingly reading the last of the novels.... (Way too overdrawn) But I started it... I'll finish it. I've been hoping the first bits would be made into a series!!! I'm pumped!
