Bret Hart pens tell all book
some pretty damning stuff here. I haven't watched wrestling for years, but I'll probably read it as I was always a fan.

Steven Brunt was talking about this book on Mike Richards' show this morning. He said it was an amazing read, even for someone who isn't a wrestling fan. I guess Brett doesn't hold back anything. If anyone here reads it I would be interested to hear your opinions. If it's really good I might pick it up.

I just ordered it online so I hope to tackle the book by this weekend. It is HUGE - over 500 pages, I believe. I was flipping through it in the store last week and the level of detail he goes into is impressive.
Here's an article about it:

I bought the book (from Costco its quite abit cheaper), have not read all of it as of yet. I am on the part where he describes his child hood and its pretty sad. Allot of distrubing things were happening for sure.

Wow! I havent followed wrestling since the late 90's. But used to be a diehard fan of it back then, when Bart Hart, Shawn Michaels, Stone Cold, the Rock, etc was on top, I'd love to read this book. Thanks for posting!

I'm very much looking forward to Jericho's book (and return?) as well. After reading a couple reviews of Hart's book, I think I am going to have to check this one out as well. It looks like it's brutally honest.

An absolute must read for me. Stampede Wrestling was an absolute must part of my Saturday's in it's heyday. And trips down to the Pavillion on a Friday Night were just so much fun. Ed Whalen was just such an incredibly good match with his talents for what went on in and out of the ring. WWF just never captured the imagination in the same way.
It always seemed like a seedy run, down and dirty undertaking and heck that was part of it's charm. Will be interesting to read what was going on behind the scenes!!!

I'm about three quarters of the way through it (just got to the Canadian Stampede PPV in July 97) and it's been utterly fascinating, even though I'm not a huge Bret Hart fan...anybody that is/was a fan of pro wrestling should pick it up.

I had the opportunity to work closely with Stu, Helen and Bruce Hart when I was in highschool to do a charity wrestling match. Stu was humpbacked and could barely stand up straight, but had the hardest handshake Ive ever had.
I was trained in the dungeon (smaller than one might think) by Bruce Hart with a couple classmates twice a week for 3 months. Bruce scripted the whole thing. Once the weather turned nice, they set up their ring outside and we trained on that. One day, Bruce, myself, my 2 classmates, and our opponents (the three teachers) were going through the routine when the Hitman himself came by the house and tossed us around the ring for 10 minutes.
The whole thing was just wonderful. All the money we raised went to cerebral palsy (one of the grandkids suffers from it). It wasnt apparent to us at the time, but the actual event was on May 23, 2000 - the one year anniversay of Owen's death.
Anyways, I plan to read this book. Bret is a wonderful person and it's sad to hear all the negatives that the Hart family has had to endure over the years.

Hitman is on The Fan right now.
Mentions the positive feedback he's heard from the Hennig (mr. perfect) family.

I really can't stand modern WWF wrestling, but I used to like Bret Hart as a kid and might pick up this book. Especially after reading most of this:

which I found to be quite interesting.

Its tragic how the Hart family has split apart over the years. I hope they can mend fences in the future. It looks like the WWE might be planning a new Hart Foundation. The British Bulldog's son and Jim Neidhart's daughter who both grew up in Calgary are a couple wrestlers that would be involved. In fact, the British Bulldog's son made his debut on Raw last night and beat Carlito.

Bret was on that stupid radio-TV show on Sportsnet yesterday(forget what its called. That one where the host is wearing those dark shades all the time. They talk about interesting things alot, but something about a radio show on TV just seems so stupid, I cant get past it). Interesting interview, it went for a full half hour. He was basically re-iterating what was posted in the article in this thread. And I dont know if it was just because of the subject matter, but I felt Bret Hart seemed pretty bitter the entire show. He doesnt seem too happy these days.

I would imagine he is very bitter and I agree that is how he sounds. Society gives the message that a life of partying, banging bimbo's along with cash and fame is the ULTIMATE. This despite the more than obvious and constant reminders that this isn't true. He got there and found out it was a HUGE disaster and those that got there with him are where? Dead is the likely answer or down and out.
Yeppers amazingly enough those time honored traditional values are indeed the key to actual happiness. No you don't need to drink vast amounts of alcohol and there is no benefit to doing so whatsoever. Ditto drugs. A relationship with one spouse is indeed the way to go. Invest your time with your wife and children. Do something for somebody other than yourself.
It has taken Bret this long to even get to the point of a self-examination. Hopefully he gets as far away from his "former" lifestyle as possible. Otherwise will we be surprised to hear his life has ended in what will be described as a tragedy?
