Default Haligonians unite to defeat Celine Dion Scourge!

Get out and stay out!

One of the finest mobilizations of civic good taste, neighbours rising in one voice to drown the shrillest threat since the Halifax Explosion!

I, for one, salute them!

Looks like Rene Angelil didn't get beyond the first four paragraphs of the offending column . . . . . because it's fairly complimentary after that.

The amount of vitriol directed at this screaming horse face, er, I mean, this world class, multi-platinum artist, is amazing.

LOL! My parents went on vacation to Australia a few years back. Cab driver asked them where they were from. When they said Canada, he turned and looked at them and said "That Celine Dion, you can keep her."

Follow-up editorial in the Daily News suggesting the concert may have been gassed by Angelil because a better gig in Quebec City popped up.

Ah, showbiz.

The concert is to be held on the historical site of the Plains of Abraham Battle as part of Quebec City's 400th Aniversary celebrations.

Not since Wolfe defeated Montcalm in 1759, has the city been so demoralized.

Talk around here, desite the posturing of both the Dion camp and The Daily News, is that the show was cancelled because both Celine and the City of Halifax (who have decided they are concert promoters) realized that she probably isn't the headliner you want for a huge outdoor concert.

I mean, 50,000 people will stand in the rain all day to watch The Rolling Stones because it just adds to the experience and they're all loaded anyway. Celine Dion fans will just go home and put the DVD in their thousand dollar home theatres.

Quebec City and Halifax are about an hour appart by air, I'm sure she could have made it on time.

Edit: Just wanted to mention, the reason for the huge out-cry from Haligonians is because city council approved $150,000 in tax payer money to go towards this "event". Not too mention that it was a private event, profiting non-local companies scheduled to happen on the Commons, a huge PUBLIC park in the middle of the city. Not to stick up for Celine, but had she come to our city without needing us taxpayers to foot part of the bill we wouldn't have made fun of her, we just wouldn't have shown up to her lousy concert.

There was a lot of outcry for these same reasons when the Rolling Stones came here two summers ago. But they didn't cry and run away.Tthey came, they played (in the rain) and they left with our money. If Celine really wanted to screw over Halifax she would have done the same thing.

I for one will go on record as saying that I believe Celine Dion is a huge talent and a talent that I very much appreciate. Perhaps some of the glitz associated with her life puts people off on her. I somehow think that is a fault of her management, none the less, her talent speaks for itself.

I agree with this 100%..she has so much singing talent and people feel the need to pick on her because she was everywhere during the 90's and was damn successful...I would rather listen to her first few albums then any pop that's come out in the last 5 years.
