Hawks-Islanders Transaction

The Chicago Blackhawks and the New York Islanders hooked up early Sunday evening and agreed to the following deal:

To Blackhawks:

Jim Slater
2009 3rd Round Pick

To Islanders:

Steve Rucchin
Cash

Islanders GM commented on the trade:

"Jimmy's (Slater) a guy we've been looking forward to see develop in our organization since we acquired him two seasons ago, but Chicago approached us today, offering up Steve Rucchin and we wanted to make it work. Rucchin brings a nice mix of exactly what we're looking to add to our squad right now and his experience and leadership should pay off in the long run. We wish Jim the best in Chicago. Hopefully, Rucchin recovers from his concussion problem he's currently sidelined with."

The Hawks are glad to welcome Slater to the fold. In three trades today, GM Dan Julien has added Slater, Marchant and Curtis Joseph without giving up much off the active roster.

Chicago will keep pushing to improve the overall roster while not giving up on the future. We have cash to trade right now if anyone is interested in dumping a player or needs some salary cap relief
