Rape Victim Jailed

This makes me angry, so I need to vent.

An appeal court in Saudi Arabia has doubled the number of lashes and added a jail sentence as punishment for a woman who was gang-raped.

The victim was initially punished for violating laws on segregation of the sexes - she was in an unrelated man's car at the time of the attack...According to the Arab News newspaper, the 19-year-old woman, who is from Saudi Arabia's Shia minority, was gang-raped 14 times in an attack in the eastern province a year-and-a-half ago.

What a crock of crap. Sometimes it seems like the North American justice system is a complete joke, but when you read stuff like this...

...well at least our society still has some semblance of moral credit to it. Not like the Saudi chuckleheads.

The majority of the 9/11 hijackers (and bin Laden himself) were from Saudi Arabia. The Saudi government, through acts like this, shows that their human rights record is just as bad as the Taliban's. Yet we go to war with Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia is considered a key American ally in the region. Where are the harsh condemnations and economic sanctions from the international community against SA after they make indefensible actions like this? Oh right, they've got lots and lots of oil, so we'd better not piss them off...

Yeah, the Americans are definitely in bed with the Saudis. Not that we have anything to brag about - it's embarassing that our government doesn't take a real stand against this crap. (At least, we haven't to my knowledge)
