Best Weather in Canada
I was having a discussion with a good friend of mine from the coast. I suppose it's all opinion but I argued that Calgary has a better climate than Vancouver, but Kelowna had a better climate than either city and the best climate in the country.
He argues that the cold here makes it worse than the coast while I argue that the sunshine here far outweighs the cold. Am I in the minority here? I think Calgary's climate while sometimes unpredictable is among the best in the country. Here's my 5 best Climates in Canada.
1.) Kelowna (Okanagan Valley), Great long summers, and cool winters with some snow.
2.) Southern Alberta, Plenty of sunshine and warm winter temps compared to alot of Canada. Summers are comfortable with sunshine.
3.) Victoria, Dryer summers and winters than Vancouver. Warm temps in the winter but still rainy for months.
4.) Lower Mainland, Temps are comfy year round, but sometimes no sunny days for a month and lots or rain.
5.) Southern Ontario, Hot muggy summers, but beautiful spring and fall, with decent moderate winters.

1.) Kelowna (Okanagan Valley), I love the heat in the summer, winters are not too bad either, cold and some snow, but not overly cold.
3.) Victoria, Summers are great, winters are mild. I would rather have rain than snow anyday.
4.) Lower Mainland, Temps are comfy year round I agree, I also dont mind rain. Would rather have clouds and rain over cold and sun.
5.) Southern Ontario, Hot and humid is perfect for me, as I have roots from the carribean. Winters are still not too bad either, not any worse than what we have here in Calgary. Their summers/spring and fall are great, far better than here.
6) Southern Alberta(calgary specifically), Yes there is alot of sun, but in reality I wish it would be warmer. Summers are short and not as warm as i would like. Winters are more mild than most of the prairies so that is a bonus, but it still does snow and it does get cold. Spring and fall, not bad, except for the snow dumps.
I may be different than most in Calgary though, I hate snow and cold. I love hot, muggy and long summers. AC has always been a friend of mine, so my house is never too hot to sleep, no matter what the temp.
The more sunny hot warm days I have, the more I can ride motorbike too.

The problem with Okanagan, is the valley is over-cast for most of the winter. It's not cold, but the sky is usually grey. You can drive up to the ski areas, and you get above the clouds where it is sunny again. But, it gets a bit depressing down in the Valley. And it can get unbearably hot in the summer - you sure wouldn't want to golf in the afternoon.

I lived in Kelowna for a year and it put me into a sunlight depraved depression, so I totally agree with this.
Calgary has the most sunshine of the major cities and that's a HUGE benefit. In addition, I'd rather the dry cold than a wet cold like you'd get in other places.

The moisture in Vancouver even at 0 is worse than -10 here. The blue skies also outweigh the grey.
That's 2-0 Calgary wins.

I have lived in obv Calgary as well as Vancouver and Victoria. And i agree the sunshine trumps the rain and cloud.
The weather in Victoria is def better than Vancouver, it doesnt rain as much which is a huge plus but it is still gloomy and depressing.
Vancouver although the temperatures are still pretty mild..it rarely gets too hot 25+ and is still cloudy and raining in the summer alot too...The winter is just a depressing nightmare...it can be cloudy and rainy for weeks on end..and it also does snow at least a couple times each winter and does it get cold..i mean +3 in Vancouver feels alot colder than +3 in Calgary...In fact in Calgary after a few days of -20 weather...-10 feels great...
Calgary always sunny and sometimes cold...
I like to measure weather on the number of days i would enjoy being outside...and calgary def takes the cake over Vancouver...there is just more days of sun/mild temps in Calgary..i dont want to be outside in the cloud and rain
For Kelowna great summers, but again the winters cloudy and cold.

My thinking as well.
Vancouver is way too muggy for my liking. Give me a dry cold in the winter over a moist summer any day.

Weather in Southern Alberta sucks... there is no weather really. My mind works differently. I feel cozy when it's coudy and rainy, or snowing even. Even really cold temperatures I enjoy, I don't mind bundling up.
Weather in Calgary bores me to death..

Agreed! I have lived in Calgary and Victoria. The grey weather here is depressing, I actually find the only way around it for me is to fake and bake in the winters here in Victoria. Else I would just go crazy, I don't know what it is.
I would take Calgary's -20 over Victoria's +5. It goes right to the bone here, and at least in Calgary if you are covered up you are good.
1) Calgary
2) Kelowna
3) Victoria
Only three places I would ever live in Canada. Vancouver doesn't even register on my list.

Boring is not a word I've heard to describe Calgary weather before! Elaborate.

Personally:
1) Victoria
2) Kelowna
3) Vancouver
4) Calgary
...
5121) Toronto
I cannot stand the weather out east. Hot + Humidity = very uncomfortable llama.
Calgary gets too damn cold and doesn't rain enough. I'd take a rainy Vancouver any day then one more -30 degree week in Calgary. But that's just me...

Lived here all my life actually.. The weather has been surprisingly stagnant since like early September, but never really actually nice..
If it's cold weather, i'd prefer to see Snow.. but that's just me I guess.

So you are writing off the rest of your life because the last 8 weeks have been boring?
Calgary's weather is awesome to experience just how it can be -15 when you wake up and get ready for work and then half way through your day its +10. Just like in the summer it could be the most beautiful day and then within minutes it can turn into a huge thunderstrom, it was awesome to watch.

Calgary rules, I love the sunshine. The coast is nice to visit, but the winter would kill me. I hate rain.

It really is a toss up...Bsically comes down to personal opinion...I think people who rather live in a cloudy rainy climate are in the minority....and dont tell me it doesnt get cold on the coast in the winter cause it does...its even cold in the summer sometimes

Yeah, I was in vancouver in mid-july this year for three days, and it rained and was about 12 degrees all three days, it was COLD. Especially compared to the weather we were having in July in Calgary. That wet drizzly cold can be pretty uncomfortable. Take today in Calgary for example, not a cloud in the sky and just below freezing, it's gorgeous out there.
