Hepatitis A at Calgary Restaurant
Heard on the news that the Calgary Health Region has confirmed a case of Hepatitis A in a food handler at the McDonalds located at 5326 - 72 Avenue S.E. Vaccination clinics will be held.
No links as of yet.

I heard this too. Right in the industrial park. Thank god I haven't touched that place in the past month.
Vaccinations are apparently free.

I just got this email. I volunteer as a coach for a CMSA soccer team. The Soccer Center is right across the street so sometimes the kids go there after games.
I was told to forward this to all of them and make sure they get vaccinated if they were there.
And to think, I just told my goalie (who is very small) to grow a foot and a half and eat McCheeseburgers 3 times a day for a month so he'd get bigger.....
That plan is probably gonna backfire.....

How fan-fataing-tastic.
The risk of exposure to hepatitis A at the restaurant is low, butvaccination to prevent infection is available for anyone who ate at therestaurant less than 14 days ago. Anyone who ate at the restaurant morethan 14 days ago is not eligible for preventative vaccination, as the timeperiod for effective treatment has passed. Patrons who ate at therestaurant more than 14 days ago need to be aware of the symptoms ofhepatitis A, which include fever, tiredness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. These symptoms are followed a few days laterby the occurrence of dark-coloured urine, light-coloured stools, andjaundice (yellow eyes/skin). Anyone who develops these symptoms should stay home from school, work, daycare or other activities; avoid preparing food for others; and contacta physician or Health Link.

Wow, October 1st to 23rd. Mcdonald's must serve a number of customers in the tens of thousands in that long of time frame.
Does anyone know a ball park estimate for how many people a McDonald's serves in 1 day? I have no idea, but it could easily be 500+ each day.

Sometime in the previous century, I worked a somewhat busy McDonalds, and our target for the drive thru was 100 cars during the noon-1pm hour. Daily average was around 30.

Curious, but how would they know that you ate there during a certain period of time? Are you expected to bring down your receipt?

Dang. I just paid $100 for a hepatitus vaccination for a trip I am going on at Christmas.
Looks like I could have gotten it for free if I claimed I ate there during that period.
