Default Giants will not resign Barry Bonds

Giants and Bonds are separating after 15 years.

Bonds says he still wants to play, which (if any) AL team will pick him up?

He'll sign as a DH with an American League Team. Which team? Hmmm...Yankees, Athletics come to mind.

Bonds for example would lead the BJs with the 1.086 OPS vs. Righties - by a good margin too.

Next 4 on the team:
Stairs .937
Rios: .800
Thomas: .793
Zaun: .734

If only we could convince him to play 1B or something, since Thomas is locked in as a DH.

Hopefully wherever he winds up, he never wins a ring. I think he will end up in:

1. Angels
2. A's
3. Dodgers

and my dark horse 4. Mets

Have a feeling the Yankee's will pick him for the DH spot.

I would give that about a 5% chance of happening. They have Giambi/Damon/Matsui as DHs and have A-Rod, Posada, Rivera, Abreu contracts to take care of. Plus Cashman is moving away from picking up aging stars as once was the Yankee way.

Fair enough.

There's a very good chance A-Rod is gone. He's almost certain to cash in on this year and opt out of his contract. The Yankees have said (although they could change their mind) that if he opts out, they wont chase him. The reasoning behind that is that the Rangers are paying $8 million of his salary still so essentially, the Yankees are only paying $16ish million for A-Rod.

The Yankees, however, are not a good fit because they just dont need a guy like Bonds (Giambi is too similar). I couldnt see Bonds going to the Red Sox because I dont think he adds anything to the line up, they could chase Arod instead, and I dont think the fans would like it at all.

So, I think, his best bet are the Angels.

I also have a strong feeling that the Giants are going to try and chase down ARod. He will be a perfect transition from the Bonds era in San Fran and will continue to fill the stadium.

A Blue Jay. Why does the thought of this make me want to upchuck? Maybe because, now that my Expos are gone, I wouldn't have anybody, in good conscious, to watch anymore.

I'd rather keep losing than have this guy soil the jersey of the Jays.

This divorce would have happened last season had Bonds not have been chasing the HR record. He was overpaid this season IMO, but for how much fuller the stadium was in SF to watch Bonds chase the record, the owners still made money overall. Now that the hype is gone, the Giants have no use for him. I think he'll go to the A's. Piazza is their current DH and he has been terrible this season so Bonds would assumably be an upgrade. Also, Oakland is just over the bridge from San Fran, so its not like he would have to uproot his family and everything.

However, in saying that, he'll probably end up going to some team that no one expects, like TBay lol.

Absolutely. This entire season was a loss for the Giants. They made their money by keeping Bonds and letting him finish the record in a Giants uniform. Now they can start the rebuilding process (overdue by at least 2 seasons). I went to several Giants games this summer and there was absolutely zero buzz during the game until Barry came to bat.

I don't understand why because the guy is a total jerk and he is always thinks of himself first before the team. His favorite answer to people's questions is "Why?" I am glad the Giants owner finally realized that the Giants will never win the World Series while Bonds is still playing for them. I am sure other players in that team are pi$$ed off at the management and the coaches because moron can get away with a lot of things.

Why would ARod opt out of his contract? Does he think another team will pay him more? Does he hate playing for the Yankees?

It is widely believed that after his production over the past 7-8 years (and especially this year) ARod and his agent, Scott Boras, can get a $30million per season contract. Realistically, he could sign another 10 year K for $250-$300 million if he opts out now.

That's a lot of gauranted money over 10 years, if he should get hurt or if his production declines.

I think if New York offers a contract in the $25-30 million mark, ARod will resign... but I dont think ARod likes it enough to walk away from millions just to play in New York.

How great would it be to see Arod as a Red Sox. It would just be a great way to stick it to the Yanks after stealing Damon

BTT: I don't think Bonds will ever be a Jay, or at least I can cross my fingers and pray every night it won't happen. I could see Bonds going to the A's or Angels, unless a decent raise is offered somewhere else outside the AL and/or California.
