Default Robert Jordan Has Passed Away...

I know many here are Wheel of Time fans so this is obviously a sad day. Robert Jordan had been battling cardiac amyloidosis for the past year but he unfortunately succumbed to the illness today.

I've grown slightly less interested as the series has gone on but I've still read the entire series at least 4 times through (excluding the last few books that I've only read once or twice).

It has already been mentioned that Jordan made detailed plot outlines and that a team of writers will still finish the final book in the series using those outlines and his notes. Unfortunately, it just won't be the same - I've been reading this series for over a decade and it's incredibly depressing that Jordan passed away just prior to writing the final book.

Man, did that series get boring after book 7 or so. What an awesome story up that point, though. I've read a couple other of his American history fiction books, and I really enjoyed them. I will miss his writing.

Son of a bitch. The end of the series just wont be the same knowing that it wasn't written by Jordan himself.

He was a talented writer and I'll miss not being able to enjoy any new works by him.

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!

I've been reading these books since 1990 & have been following his illness closely for the past couple years as he was so in touch with his fan base.

This is so sad.....the last book just won't be the same without his touch.

RIP RJ!

I always thought this would happen... Though I've thought the series has really gone downhill in the past 3-4 books, the first ones were great.

RIP RJ.

Sad for this news.
Like others have said I really enjoyed the first four, then found it caught in a repeating loop books 5-7. The characters just kept having the same arguments for 100's of pages, nothing happened. I started to think that he and Goodkind were having a contest to see who could write a never ending series.

*sigh*

I had a friend a number of years ago saying (before he was ever diagnosed with anything), "With my luck, I'll start reading the series and he will die before he gets done."

When RJ was diagnosed, I reminded him of his quote.

And I too was frustrated at the lack of any progress the last few books. I started reading the series when I thought it was a trilogy. Then I would buy the next book as soon as it was released in paperback, then it was as soon as the book was released, but the last few I've been waiting for the hardcover to go in the discount bin, and I haven't even read the latest.

RIP Robert Jordan

RIP Robert Jordan.

Still looking forward to book 12 (and book 11 for anyone who stopped reading the series was a complete resurgence and got everything back on track).

RIP RJ.

I'm remembering hearing that if this was to happen, his wife, Harriet would be the one to finish the book. Seeing as how she was an editor and a springboard to bounce ideas off of, this will be better than a team of writers finishing it. No, it still won't be RJ, but it should be pretty close.

And yes, to those who kinda gave up on the series, book 8 was horrid, 9 was ok (at least there was a major lasting event), 10 so-so and 11 ended a lot of the storylines started in 8 that seemed to last forever. 11 was quite good. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
