Default Nationals @ Marlins - Draws a crowd of 375 people

Well we thought things were bad in Florida for the hockey teams. It looks like the Marlins have put them to shame. Yesterdays game didn't bring in the announced attendance of 10,121 people but was counted by a Washington Post report at 375 people.

Here is a photo:

Could not get the original report on it as I don't have a Washington Post subscription...but the Palm Beach Post did a similar story. CLICK HERE

Send the Marlins to MTL!

Sad really - and they have won two World Series IIRC. The Cubs have not won in like forever.

Picture reminds me of a lot of some NBA games - ex. you will see highlights from ATL, and the announced attendance is 15,000, but NO ONE is in the building.

Jeffrey Lauria.....couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Really pathetic though...the Marlins have some smart people working for them, as they've had a lot of talent come through their system. But this is just sad....I mean it's not like a blizzard kept them all away. Somethings really not right because...it's not like Miami shouldn't be a good baseball market.

To be fair, the time of the game was changed from evening to afternoon, which surely had a huge effect on the crowd. Still, pretty pathetic though.

The marlins have been the posterboy team for
a)build up a team from scratch
b)win and have a great run (and get the fans out)
c)trade off any talent that may expect/deserve a raise
d)rake in $ from the fans who jumped on the bandwagon
e)repeat

Some years ago I went to a ball game in Minneapolis. There were less than 3,000 fans in the Metrodome for that afternoon game. Fans were all huddled behind home plate with a few scattered in the outfield.

The Twins were playing the Tigers at the time. Up to bat comes Cecil Fielder. He cranks one into the second row of left field bleachers for a homerun. The hilarious part what that there was ONE fan in that area of the stadium. Anyhow the fan who was sitting in the 30th row stands up and slowly makes his way down towards the ball. Halfway down he stops to take a big drink from his beer. He waves to eveyone and is greeted with hoots of laughter from other fans. Of course players on the field are watching all of this and enjoying a few chuckles. Finally after another big drink he makes his way down to row 2. Picks up the ball and shows everyone. Players and fans started cheering and clapping as the fan made his way back to his seat.

Was told later it was close to a record for low attendance.

Crowds in the hundreds are not unheard of for hastily changed games, and doubleheaders. I know Chicago (southside) has had turnstile counts in the hundreds for the first end of doubleheaders in the past.

But yeah, that is mighty sad.

Pretty sad considering the success they have had down there.

Nice ballpark.

Instead of moving the team, I would be more in favour of contraction.
