Default Giuliani campaign is crashing and burning

Seems everyone's favorite right wing crossdressing Presidential candiadte has finally invoked 9/11 once too often. The NYPD, NYFD and NY EMS have already given the ex-mayor a vote of non-confidence, so this should be the final nail in the coffin of the guy that seems to be a viable candidate only because of the perception he was a great leader during the events of 9/11 and the aftermath.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070811/...ni_ground_zero

Of course this is no where near as "detrimental" as misspeaking and calling the leader of Canada "the President" to some, but it might be just a tab bit more important in the big picture. Certainly the claims are bogus, but most troubling is the frequency at which the candidate will use the events of 9/11 to his political benefit. Hopefully the voters have had enough of this practice from the current administration and will want to move away from the scare mongering and invocation of 9/11 as a badge of honor from a political standpoint.

Frankly...I think every single campaign is crashing and burning. Obama was and still is my hopeful candidate. Every other person that could possibly be running has already lost my vote.

Sadly...I'll probably end up voting against Hillary if she wins the primaries.

As i said many months ago, the winner of this election will be someone off the charts at the time. Basically none of Obama, Clinton or Giuliani et al.

I think Obama woulda won easily had he waited longer to get his campaigning going and let everyone fling the mud at each other for awhile.

Harper's August edition has an excellent article about Guiliani.

I recommend it.

Fred Thompson will be president. You heard it here first! Newt Gingrich will be his running mate. They will win a solid majority making it impossible for even the most rabid lefties to claim it was voter fraud.

Bill Richardson on the Democratic side. The Dems finally get things right, picking a governor from a Red state with a common touch who picks Evan Bayh or Mark Warner as his running mate. Finally, a non-New Englander who can relate to middle America.

I think there is a lot of wishful thinking in these "candidate crashing and burning" threads. It's still early in the game and the Obama and Giuliani gaffes will be long forgotten when it really matters.

That was my question--Azure, I thought you were Canadian!

I don't get to vote, sadly--even though I've lived in the U.S. since '98, I'm still a Non-resident Alien, since I've been in school all this time. Who knows--we may end up back in Canada in the next 5 years (I hope so, anyway...) However, IF I were voting, and IF I were a Republican (I'm neither of those things) I'd be dismayed at the array of yahoos and idiots the GOP has put forward for candidacy in this election cycle. Giuliani is the latest guy to go down in flames, but if you look down the rest of the list, it's a who's who of the underwhelming.

It ain't much better on the Democratic side either. The Candidates that I think would actually be good for America are the ones that I see as the media ignoring. I'd love to see a race between Ron Paul and John Edwards. I think "America" wins with either of them, and I think the balance in foreign ploicy would take a huge step back towards the place it should be; benevolence. I think the world needs a big picture thinker in the White house, and a guy that is willing to allow others to not only participate in matters, but lead. America needs to focus on what had made America great, and concentrate in reclaiming that position. Only a benevolent leader who is willing to make common sense decisions based on the needs of everyone will return America to that seat.

So Iowa, how come yopu haven't taken the next logical step? If you've been a permanent resident alien since '98, you can apply for your citizenship and be part of the solution. Why not jump into the queue?

I'm not sure if Obama's will be forgotten. His biggest flaw is his inexperience. Clinton will want to exploit that. She will take every opportunity to remind folks over and over again of every gaff Obama makes.

Bush had the same problem to a smaller extent during his first election campaign. He got over it by appearing to surround himself with political veterans like Colin Powell. Having been Governor of a large state and the son of a President didn't hurt either.

Giuliani regardless of what he says is going to have a hard time winning over conservative Christians. His main attraction is the possibility of winning New York. If Giuliani could possibly take that from the Democrats like Reagan took California he would sail easily into the white house. I think his political fortunes will be decided by the rest of the field. If someone with better conservative credentials can convince the base they've got a shot at winning Giuliani will fall back quickly.

Clinton's "Lobbyists represent real Americans" really makes me scared. She's the leading candidate right now and has the best shot - and she's the best "status quo, corporate interests run Washington" candidate out there right now. Even moreso than the Republican candidates.

Sure, lobbyists represent real Americans - the 10% of Americans that own 80% of the wealth.

I think this year that is more apparent than some of the campaigns in the past.

I hold dual citizenship.

Have since '96 when I moved to Washington State. Moved back to Pincher Creek in '99.

This is actually my first year that I'll vote.

Interesting. How did you manage to get citizenship so quickly? If you moved to Washington State in '96, then returned to Canada in '99, you didn't live in the country long enough to establish permanent residency toward citizenship. Also, the vote is held in 2008, not this year.
