Default Can A NASCAR Fan Explain Something?

How does it make sense that a driver can sign with another team half way through the season, however still finishes with his current team?

I am confused about that, it would be like having Kipper be with the Flames down the stretch but already be signed with the Devils for next year. (I choose the Devils because I can assume they won't be looking at Kipper with Marty in net, didn't want to get flack for "karma" )

Thanks!

Off-season is a lot shorter, you have more issues like sponsors, diecasts to make etc

Okay that makes sense, thanks.

Still kinda odd though when you think of it.

Not really.
It's not like hockey where there are defined rules about when you can negotiate with someone for their services.

The drivers in NASCAR are no different than you're average contractor in Calgary.
If I work for one company and am on a 1 year contract, and I know I finish up in say Setpember, then there is nothing stopping me from getting a job with another company that starts when my existing contract is up.
