so it's August
the worst month of the year as far as being a hockey fan is concerned. at least with July you get the free agency madness, and September is good for the training camps and pre-season. but close to absolutely nothing seems to happen in August, and i'm left with staring at that depressing countdown on the righthand side
if only there was a way to magically skip the calander ahead 30 days

I hear you, though I try not to wish away days.
I'll enjoy the rest of the summer.

It's also the hottest month, at least here in the midwest. Definitely one of my least favorite months....but.....Septemeber and October are my favorites...so in a way, August is good because it's almost my favorite time of the year.

Ugh I want to see some live games, I'm sick of watching classic games on the NHL network. Only 60 days until the home opener.

August in southwestern Alberta is certainly vastly superior to November, December, January, February, March and most of April.

I don't know Ken....my dogs certainly don't mind the months CowPerson listed. Especially my Samoyed he much prefers -40 weather to +30 any day of the week.

I'm just saying there's an extra 82 night per year for them to go out for those long excursions.

My black Lab loves the winter. Her knees give her problems and the summer months seem to make it worse. I think the cold keeps the inflamation down and theres some cushiony snow to run on instead of hard ground.
Today, however, we're heading down to the creek so she'll be happy to splash around down there and the icy water will do the same trick.
On the hockey note though, I find its kinda like quitting smoking. You just have to keep yourself really busy. If you spend all your time thinking about when your next hockey fix will be, time drags slow as molasses.
Also, you can reduce your time frame by using the Flames Preseason games as your start point. Doing that takes two weeks off your personal countdown. So, really, it's 45 days or 6.5 weeks. So, really, it's right around the corner!

I'm with doozwimp on this one. I love hockey as much as the next guy but I would never wish the summer months away to get back to it faster. To soon we will be dealing with -30 instead of +30. The return of hockey is such a double edged sword for me. Hockey is back (woot!) but my birthday is in September so I'm another year older and it also means summer is over.
I also find the arrival of Taber corn to be double edged. Love the corn but it signals the end of summer as well.

Oh, the dogs like hockey season more than summer for sure . . . . more energy in the cooler weather and we go hiking about the same amount if not more in the snow than the heat of the summer.
Downside is no gophers to kill.
For myself though, I'll take summer.

I'm really happy with all the activities I did this summer. Wish I had gotten out camping a bit more, but even just the ability to sit on a patio with a cold brew has been awesome.
