Nords ship Calder to Columbus

After lengthy negotiations, RFA Holdout Kyle Calder hancuffed the Quebec Nordique into a trade.

Calder joins a rebuilding Bluejackets team, while defenseman Brendan Witt joins the Nordiques.

"It looks to be a pretty fair deal on paper. We wanted to add another strong body on the blueline," claimed GM Prottotype. "Witt should help clear space so that Roberto Luongo can see more of the shots taken."

While this leaves the Nords light up front, their D is as good as its ever been. Rumour has it that GM Prottotype is shopping around Shane Doan in an effort to spread out the tallent up front.

"If we were to move Doan, we'd need some kind of package deal. We'd need atleast 2 younger players in the 74-75 OV range. We'd be more than happy to keep Shane a Nord, but we're also in need of making the playoffs. We'll listen to any offer, but it has to be right for this club"

Jackets confirm that we have in fact dealt veteran defenceman Brendan Witt to the Nordique in exchange for Kyle Calder. Given that our team was still a bit thin up front this deal essentially nets us another forward who will play in our top 6 up front who is 4 years younger than the player being moved out. Although Calder and the Nordique had been unable to come to a contract agreement the Jackets feel an agreement of some type can be reached sooner rather than later. We wish Brendan the best, he's a player that we did like but in the end we had to make a move which we felt addressed an area of weakness from one of our strengths.
