Default Moving Truck Suggestions?

Hey CP -

Next month I'll be making a move, and will be renting a truck to do the move with some buddies.

I know all about the UHaul horror stories, so I'm wondering what companies you may have had positive experiences with (ie, truck was there, fair price, etc). One preference is that the place is open on Sundays, but that can be worked around.

TIA.

I usually use Ace, but:

- They aren't open Sundays. In fact they are barely open Saturdays.
- They really don't like dealing with the public. When you call them for a quote say "Hi, this is Calf from Calf's Calfing Supplies."

Last time I used them it was $100 for the biggest truck you can drive with a class 5. (I really thought I should have a class 3, but anyways- it was big) the only extra cost- the GST.

I used Discount Truck Rentals when I moved last time, and didn't have any complaints with the vehicle. I had been recommended to use "The Driving Force" but they had rented out all of their trucks at the time.

The big thing is to know how big of a truck you need - and how well you pack (the looser you pack, the more trips you will need).

When I have moved within the city here Ive used Cheap Charlie's. They are located on Macleod trail and 25ave, accross the street from Humpty's. Ive used the twice and I have really liked the people that have moved my stuff.
The area and building they are in is kinda shaddy, but I really liked them. Plus if you need boxes and buy them from them I think they give a discount on the boxes

Whatever you do and no matter how much money you save....NEVER EVER EVER EVER Go with Uhaul. They are a JOKE!!!

Last summer when me and my roomie moved we both booked a Uhaul trailers but on different days. Well the day we have to move I phone to get my trailer they tell me they have no idea where the trailer is but they have located another one for me, so that was fine.

Well then my buddy phones to get his trailer when he was off work and they tell him they had to give it away (Ya thats right the one I got, and have already packed full of my stuff) BUT they have one for him and he has to call back in 15 minutes.

15 minutes later he phones in and they tell him his trailer is ready, in BANFF! Well in Uhauls little world Banff is considered local to Calgary when you book a truck. So he had to drive 45 minutes to get a trailer, and 45 minutes back and they would not give him any type of money off for the inconvince because "Thats just how things work at Uhaul" one lady told him.

AND in all the confusion we both phoned Uhaul because we had to keep the trailers an extra day because it took us longer to get to Victoria than we thought (stayed in Kelowna with some friends and partied ), and they tell us they have no record of even renting with them. Anyone want to buy a trailer?

Last time I moved I rented a van from the Rona on Macleod Trail, 3/4 Ton, with plenty of space, they don't take reservations but if you get there 1st thing in the morning you'll be able to get it, 19.95 for the first 90 minutes, $60 for the whole day(24 hours), +they also do a KM charge, 35c per kliq, if you have to put gas in it just bring the receipt and they will deduct it from your rental fee.

I just did the price comparison between these two. UHaul quoted $30 for a 17ft truck + .35 per km. Budget quoted $160 for a 16ft truck, + $35 because I'm under 25, + $.35 per km. Yikes!
