Default The Do's and Don't of Buying a new car

Haven't bought a new car in Canada. I figure there are a lot of people here with good experience at buying cars.

What are the Do's and Don'ts of buying a new car?

Negotiations: What to do, what to say, what not to do or say.
Car Options: How do I get them. I don't wat to pay full price for just air conditioning.
When is the best time to go in.....anything else?

Basically...how do I take them to the cleaners and not the other way around?

Make sure your car doesn't display the autobot's logo.

I would say that would be a bonus.

Here's the biggest do of them all these days. Buy from the US. Use the local dealerships to find out what you want then ask for quotes from US cities that have direct air service from Calgary and are not too far to drive back from.

I was pricing out a Lexus IS350 the other day. I could get the fully loaded model out of the US for about $44,000 canadian plus taxes etc... To buy that car locally would be like $58,000 plus GST. The recent surge in the dollar has made the auto bussiness do a total 180. When I bought a new car in 2002, I had to sign a contract guaranteeing I would not sell the car in the U.S. in the first year. Today it's the exact opposite.
