Default Clinton-Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative

Former President, Vancouver businessman and Mexican Telecomm giant team up to fight global poverty.

Canadian Frank Giustra donated 100 million dollars and half of everything he makes for the rest of his life and Carlos Slim will match it.

Some pretty hefty donations for a very good cause.

Great to see the business world giving back to some of the nations that have given them their resources, and picking up where our governments often fall short.

Good stuff.

I hope, though, that this isn't the kind of "we scratch your back, you scratch ours" third-world aid. I wonder if the donations from the CGSCI are tied to things like exclusive mineral rights in other regions of nations targetted for aid and things like that.

I mean, I hate being cynical but that's a lot of money. The other proviso, too, is that the money goes to sustainable development and isn't simply throwing money at ethnic poverty -- we Canadians all know how that turns out.
