I've been wanting to ask this question for a while now, and now that it looks like a lot of states had the exact same votes as last time, do Ameircan citizens even care whos running the party or is it just the party? I bet Kerry haters would find it easy to hate bush had he been on the other side, so does it really matter or is just deomocrats Vs. Republicans no matter what?
I do unnderstand you have you alliances like here in Canada, but in the States, for many voters.. does it even matter at all whos running, have they already decided who to vote for?

If I'm not mistaken, GW Bush was the first winner in four elections to gather more than 50% of the electoral vote.
These things have been pretty close for a while.
Carter/Reagan were virtually tied in polls heading into the final weekend of 1980.
There's a religious element in the USA that's more prevalent by far than in any other western democracy. Here in other countries, we simply don't understand it but its there in spades.
I saw a poll that said 70% of Americans feel the moral character of the candidates, as judged by them, would be one of the key factors in their decision. A poll I saw last night narrowed that further, saying, I think, 25% or so of Americans place moral character as the number ONE factor in their decision.
I would say that's the overwhelming reason GW Bush was re-elected. Americans judged him to be the candidate with the stronger moral character. Obviously some would disagree with the interpretation of whether Bush is the leading candidate in that department.
So . . . in answer to the question, yes people do seem to care who the candidate is.
We should remember though that this election was actually less divided in terms of the result than the last one.
