Oh ya, he actually doesn't put anything in his mouth, but I know his mother will want to send the trains back and he will wig out. Ah well, better safe than sorry.

I saw this on the news the other day. My question- how can a toy manufacturer "accidentally" use lead paint on toys? Especially ones intended for toddlers.

My house isn't exactly "kid friendly", but I know I don't buy anything with lead paint.

Yeah very scary.. obviously the Chinese manufacturer thought "don't use lead paint" was just another way of saying "paint it red". I wonder if the workers using the lead paint know of the dangers.

Another one is those Magnetix toys with the magnets and balls.. on the older ones the magnets can come out and if you swallow two magnets you can be in BIG trouble.. perforated intestines, internal bleeding, blood poisoning... one kid died of it.

I wonder how often toys like these start out fine, but then a different part of the company is charged with actually producing the toy then price becomes king and they don't always know how the toy is produced. Especially when it is places overseas, an initial few runs may have been fine, but if the chinese producer can get away with shaving a few cents off their costs and the buyer doesn't notice, what do they care. Similar to the pet food taint from earlier this year - the chinese producers were putting crap in to jack up the protein content and even after a recall was issued it took scientists weeks to figure out what had gone wrong. I worry that this happens more than we may know.
