Fata?
I am relatively new to the CP community as it were, due to this newness, I do not understand the term Fata. I acknowledge that Rico Fata was a borderline horrible player. But the term "Fata" seems to be much like the term "Smurf" in that it can be used in any set of circumstances and mean essentially anything.
I dont get it. I am out of the Fata loop. Someone please fill me (and maybe a bunch of other people) in.
Locke.

Its a reposted story.
Once upon a time the board filters also changed the f-word to fata.

I just searched the board for the word "Fata" and giggled at all the locked threads.

It has two main meanings.
The primary one is when somebody posts a duplicate thread. This term came about one day when Rico Fata was placed on waivers, and there was a barrage of threads about it.
The second (and lesser used) meaning is in place of the "F" word. On the old forum software we had it programmed to replace the "F" word with fata automatically- and some of us old timers use it in place of the "F" word.
Edit- and it looks like I've been fata'd in the Fata thread.

Loche,
A "Fata" is when someone starts a thread about something that's already been talked about/has a thread about it.
It was coined back when Rico Fata was placed on waivers, there was something like 5 or 6 threads started about it. This was before my time, so details could be wrong, but didn't the mods get upset, merged the threads, and from that point on if someone started a thread about a topic already underway they were given the shame of the "Fata"
also a video of a dancing Rico Fata surfaced and was posted in the douplicate thread bringing much shame to the poster and upon his family.
(video is in the post above)

That is arguably the funniest thing I have ever heard. I had begun to think that it was an acronym like LOL, or other such text speak. Something like From Another Thread Already or something like that.
Hilarious. Much shame. Much like Rico Fata.

I'd say Gelina'd would be better for someone who kills threads

Your thread asking about a 'Fata' is indeed a fata.

You know, to be fair I thought I had it figured out, but then people were using it in different contexts and the I thought I had it wrong. I just figured it would make sense to check with the old hands on this board before I used the term and erroneously and thus accidentally create an awkward Fata "faux pas."
The irony of this slays me, it really does.
Locke.

Don't forget that the "Red Hot" prefix came from the Red Hot Flames video that got posted about a thousand times. There was a small movement to include "Smoking" in there as well, due to the amount of times a certain photo of a chain smoking Flames player was posted and deleted. Woulda been something along the lines of: "Red Hot Smoking Fata". If Anthony would be so kind as to put a cigarette in one of spidey's hands and a trumpet in the other, I for one would probably pee myself.

Nope, there were no mods back in the day.
Just DisplacedFlamesFan making a joke about all the Fata threads. It was such exciting news about Fata being on waivers that everyone posted it before they read anything. Days later it was still being posted in new threads.

Somehow I think it is appropriate that I post in this thread.
That said, I have come to understand the story of the "Fata", but I did not know about the Red Hot part. My life is more complete now knowing that...

I love the "What's the meaning of Fata?" threads. They're kinda like a way of measuring the passing of generations on CP: now with this thread, presumably every regular poster knows the meaning of Fata. In another six months or a year there will be another "what's fata?" thread, for a new generation of posters. Sunrise, sunset...
