Calgary Transit- not just school buses cancelled!
Service adjustments are being made on a daily basis. Schedule adjustments will be made available by 8:00 pm for the next morning and 1:00 pm for the afternoon peak period and evening service.
I stumbled upon this by chance. A girl who works in my office suddenly started showing up on my bus Tuesday. We started talking, and she said that her usual bus (the one after mine) hadn't showed up Monday so she was on this one instead. This morning I asked her if she had heard anything, and she said that apparently CT has been cancelling buses with little or no notice. Most noteably on my route (117- McKenzie Towne Express) they cancelled the 6:19 am bus (which is the middle bus), as well they have cancelled the 5:15pm bus; which is the last bus of the day.
I get the 5:05 bus, and noticed it's been busier than usual. I'd hate to be the guy who found out the hard way that there is no 5:15 bus, and now instead of a 50 minute bus ride he now has a 90-120 minute LRT and shuttle ride.
Be sure to check your schedules twice per day until they settle the dispute.

There must have been at least one 117 missing this morning. When I had the dogs out this morning for a walk and I was heading up Prestwick Blvd towards the brick church. It was around 7am. A 117 drives by that is absolutely packed to the front door and it still had all the stops in Prestwick to do. Then about 3 minutes after that another 117 went by with a grand total of 3 people on it.
You think the first driver would call and say he had them packed in like cattle and see if there was one behind him with room.

Yeah, that happened 2 weeks ago too. My regular bus didn't come, so the next bus was just jam packed- no seats as we left Copperfield and little standing room into Inverness. Then halfway along Inverness another 117 joined us. I thought we'd just divert right onto Deerfoot from the traffic circle as we were packed. Nope, we just kept driving in a fricken convoy, and our driver kept passing the other, so we'd pick up more people, then the other bus would pass us to pick up people that wouldn't fit ont ours.
Took an extra 40 minutes to get into work.

It's a joke. I work downtown and getting to work is a pain now, i don't know when the bus is going to show up and am beginning to question if it will.
I like how the people in power (alderman, mayor) have free parking at city hall, that way they don't have to pay $20/day to park or take city transit. They have nothing to worry about with transit, won't make them late for work/school if they decide to strike.

They need a full sized bus in West Springs. Cougar Ridge has one but West Springs is just as big.. and we've got a puny shuttle.
It's pretty crazy how full the busses get though.

So does all this "work to rule" stuff make you sympathize with the plight of the Union?
Personally, just makes me angry at both sides... perhaps a bit less at the City than the Union. Bus drivers already make a decent salary considering the requirements of the job. Yes, some aspects of the work sucks and being forced to work overtime or do split shifts isn't very appealing.

Personally I sympathize with the union and would support them. My main concern is to get to school and work on time and so if there is anyway by support or whatever that I can help the drivers to reach their goals then I benefit by having regular service again.
It is annoying though to have fired up drivers being dicks because the union has got them on the war path.

And who will drive either the Shuttle or Bus? If the city doesn't pay this time around they are 200 short now and that number will only grow if the City decreases benefits and doesn't give a raise to keep up with inflation. Who would do it? Would you ?

I'm all for getting paid what you are worth. I am not in support of making my life more miserable in order to get what you want. Kinda selfish but there you go.

When a union holds the general public hostage over a contract dispute they get zero support from me. The guy or gal that uses the bus to get to work or school should not be used as a pawn. Find another way to settle your dispute!
