Default I Need Help.....my "Return" key stopped working!!

Hey all....wierd question...for some reason I woke up this morning and all of a sudden my "Return" key and my "backslash" key are no longer working...for the record I have a Macbook. I dont know why this has happened....I have tried to clean the keyboard but that does nothing....So I guess my question is mutil layered...firstly anyone know why this could have happened(insert question mark here) Secondly anyone have any ideas of what I can do to fix the problem(question mark)....Thirdly is there any way toggling down without the Return key(question mark) As you can probably tell my post(all of them today) have been crammed together with no spaces and I have no question marks...I was hoping someone might have some ideas before I have to bring it in to a pro.

How old is it (question mark) (return key) your components could be fried, do you know if its a hardware issue or software issue (question mark) (return key) then again, I'm not a computer tech, so what do I know (question mark)

lol...well the computer is only 6 months old so I hope nothing is fried. And I have tried both keys in varoius different applications and they dont work in anything...so I am assuming it is a hardware issue.

First, try getting a can of compressed air. Stick the nozzle under the key with the can upright and give 'er a few blasts. If there's anything stuck under there (crumbs), that should get it loose.

If that doesn't work, try removing the problem keys, cleaning everything thoroughly, and putting them back on. I'm sure you can Google instructions on how to do it. http://forums.mactalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=8714 has some steps, but the pictures aren't there anymore.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58390 also covers some things like software issues.

Good luck!

Get a new roommate and a new keyboard, in that order.

DO NOT REMOVE KEYS FROM A MACBOOK.

Or at least be very freaking carefull if you do. Don't bother with that link either, it's for a powerbook. Completly different keyboards.

For return, use the enter key beside the Cmd button on the right. Call Apple ASAP.

while I'll never profess to be a computer guy, I've always had mixed success by smashing any electronic devise that I don't think is meeting expectations with a clenched fist.

Have you tried that?

Meh. I haven't run across a keyboard -- laptop or desktop -- that don't have keys that come off and go back on. You have to take care when removing them, but I've never had problems.

That being said, I've never tried it on a Mac laptop...mostly because I hate Apple (and my friends who DO support Apple would never let me try it on their machines). However...http://www.newlaunches.com/archives/...rak_layout.php
