Give your local MP a call.
They have a supply of flags to give out to their constituents for free.
I myself just picked up a bunch to take overseas with my rugby team next week.
They're made of some sort of synthetic material, but they are good quality flags, sutibale for actually flying on a flagpole.

You can get on the waiting list for a flag from on top of Parliament, but it may take you a few years of waiting. It's free though.

I just signed up for that myself. The current wait time is 9-years for the East and West Block flags, and a whopping 18 years for a Peace Tower flag! I have a go-big-or-go-home policy, so I went for the Peace Tower.
The email address that requests should be sent to is Minister@pwgsc.gc.ca

So what's the story there? They change the flags every day and then forward the used one to a citizen?
I like that.

yep, something like that. Im not sure how often they get changed, but up that high Im sure those flags get a pretty good beating.
I too like the whole thing. It's a small detail, but kind of a cool gesture.
