They should have flights to japan and korea since everyone and their dog smokes there.
You can tell how polluted a city is by the color of your snot. Mine are still black from the trip! hehe.

Strange, I found Korea (I'm assuming south) relatively clean. You've obviously never been to the major cities in China if you think that is dirty and polluted.

I think this is a good idea in principle, I think all of society in every country should do this kind of thing. Smoking bars - non smoking bars, smoking movie theatres - non smoking movie theatres, smoking cafe's - non smoking cafe's.
My idea is pie in the sky and would never acctually work but would make sense, people who smoke could work in the smoking establishments as the likely wouldnt care about 2nd hand smoke and those who dont smoke could work in the non-smoking places. I think the amount of smokers is still high enough in Canada to allow this to be feasible for the establishments, but of course the legislation would never allow it.

Nah, I'm a smoker myself and I'm OK with them moving smoking out doors only. It really is a bad habit and non-smokers shouldn't have to live with it. Not to mention, even as a smoker, the smoke smell on your clothes after coming home from a night club is disgusting.

I just hope that other airlines don't follow suit and start to allow smoking on planes...

is smoking such a big concern to people that it's the number one decision maker in choosing carriers? You know, as opposed to price, scheduling, safety record? if someone cant sustain from having a cigarette for a couple of hours, they really do have a problem.

Although you make a good point the article did mention this was designed mainly for long haul flights, as the planes are 747's only, hardcore smokers probably find it hard to not light up for 10+ hours. Also the only have 150 seats or something while a regular 747 has 550, so I am thinking this is going to be an airline for people who dont care about the cost to begin with.

Six years ago everyone was smoking on my flight from Frankfurt to Athens on Olympic Airways (even the flight attendants while they made our sandwiches).

138 seats on a 747? Yikes! Everyone gets their own sofa? This guy isn't going to make any money.
I just got back from Montreal and Quebec and it was my first time there since they have banned smoking indoors anywhere. I smoke and to tell you the truth, I am not going to mind a smoke free Calgary. I smoked way less which is good for me. It is however going to be a bitch for bars that have to control lineups and those wanting to go out for a smoke.

Doesn't seem to be an issue here in Vancouver. Never seen a line-up such as that here. It amazed me with Calgary's cooky laws when I was told I couldn't smoke on a patio and had to go inside. I never understood that one.

Hehe yeah. Or at Stampede where you have to go out to where all the children are rather than smoke in the beer gardens.

They just opened a new casino outside of Edmonton here that allows smoking. The first day it opened there was a lineup to get in so people could smoke and gamble.
The cruise ship I took on my honeymoon the Carnival Paradise used to be a non-smoking ship, and they reverted it to a smoking only ship. Their reasoning was passenger for passenger the ship made less money than any other ship in their fleet. Odd considering non-smokers should have more money one would think. But apparently smokers tend to be more cavalier livers, and are more apt to gamble and drink and spend than non-smokers. Very seldom do I see a smoker drive 5 minutes out of their way to save $1.50 on a pack of smokes. If someone was out of cigarettes, it's always where is the closest and quickest place for me to get my next pack of smokes.
Never underestimate how much smokers are willing to spend to have that convenience. In my entire life I've met one person who was a smoker that I'd consider to be a cheapskate. Everyone else would find a way to get that extra dollar if it meant they could keep smoking.

Can't wait for the CNN headline
"Boeing 747 crashes 30 minutes after the airline takeoffs, A fire on board caused the plane to engulf in flames. One airline spokesperson was quoted as saying "We're not sure which chain smoker forgot to but out after finishing in the washroom. We suspect however the fire started in the bathroom trashcan"
I can see it now,
This is the dumbest idea yet to hit the skies.
In Canada isn't it a federal offence to smoke on an airplane?
I'm a frequent flyer and no matter how cheap those tickets are I wouldn't be caught dead on that flight.

Up until the mid 80's, smoking was allowed on most any flight in Canada of the US (why do planes have no smoking signs..that are now always lit?), I don't recall too many fiery infernos plaguing our skies as a result.
Obviously, a not going to work in mainstream society anymore on a large scale.
Almost as annoyingly disgusting would be having someone smoking next to you in class at University. Somewhere at the U of C there was a picture of a full classroom in Science A (a Science Theatre) from the mid 80's...the a haze of cigarette smoking hanging above those sitting in the last (highest) row.

I'm being sarcastic about the plane crashing because of smoking, it can happen but highly unlikely

I hate to generalize, but since I'm technically European myself, I feel a certain freedom to comment that I'm not surprised this idea comes from the other side of the pond. Those people LOVE their cigarrettes, and act like they have a god-given right to smoke wherever they want to. In Iceland, it seems like every other person smokes. Icelandair allowed smoking on flights up until (I think--I was pretty young) the early 90s. I was 15 on the last smoking flight I was on--It was the most miserable 6 hours of my young life.

The rest of Europe is more liberal but our Fuhrer over here in Britain is taking away all of our civil liberties, from the sensible to the ridiculous. Ban smoking in all public places now, ban smoking in your own home when you have guests next, ban smoking for our own safety in the future. Tax increases on gas for vehicles that pollute next, huge tax increases on gas for everyone in the future and that includes travel by bus, banning of driving by 2050. Children not allowed to play games, sports or exert any physical stress in the playground at school incase of injury. All schools to ban sports teams in the future so the fat kids who cannot play do not feel left out. by 2080 the government decide that death causes to much grief so they ban life altogether for our own sakes. C*ntweasels!
I say if you want to smoke, then smoke. If a place/bar/resaurant/airline wants to enforce a no smoking policy then they can, if they want to let people smoke then they should be allowed to. I do NOT want to be told how to live my life. I don't care about getting lung cancer from smoking (its only a 4% chance anyway) and seeing as i already have skin cancer, i will probably die before i am 50 so let me live my life doing what i want too. I understand lots of people do not smoke and do not like it. Thats cool. Most restaurants should be non-smoking but if a restaurant wants to allow smoking it cannot over here and over there, that is what really ****es me off. No more choice, our governments make our decisions for us in our best interest but that is bollocks.
My country is going down the pan faster than anyone realized but we are a nation of complainers who never do anything so we will just take it and carry on. I am lucky i am marrying a Canadian.

Sure let them smoke. As long as their health premiums are a minimum of 10 times what I pay. Plus keep raising the prices of smokes and tax them that way as well. Health costs are killing us and here we allow a major health hazard to go on. We are so dumb!!!

We took our young boys to Euro Disney in Paris last summer, and were amazed to see everyone smoking around children.
