The Human Camera

Autistic people and savants have always fascinated me. This took my breath away. Especially since I have spent some time in Rome and know how complex the layout of the city is.

Higher functioning autism really is a sight to see, where the ability to verbalize thoughts and the ability to communicate with others is pretty much non-existant but at the same time the memories and their abilities to do somethings that most of us couldn't even dream of is absolutely amazing. At the same time though I really do wonder if these guys (and girls) are happy. Or are they just a step above everyone else.

There was a cool story about an autistic teen on t.v. He tried out for the high school basketball team but didn't make it. The coach was really impressed with his hard work so he put him in as team manager or equipment manager for the season. In the final championship game the coach secretly put the kids name on the roster. The team ended up having a really big lead in the final few minutes so the coach put the autistic kid in. He ended up getting not 1, not 2, not 3, but 6 3 pointers in a row!!!

Makes me wonder what the true capacity of the human brain really is?
Just amazing.

That's the basketball video.
A few years back I knew an autistic kid. He was maybe 8 years old. He was "high-functioning" and I was teaching him how to read. I don't remember much about how that went, but I do remember that he could stand on an exercise ball. Whether or not that is some special talent I don't know, but he wasn't particularly co-ordinated otherwise. Doesn't sound all that impressive I know, but you try standing on a fully inflated exercise ball with your feet 6 inches apart and tell us how it goes.

don't worry - with more vaccinations we'll have more autism!
http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/l...?storyid=25314
“We know that mercury is toxic. We even know that thimerosal at some level is toxic. Common sense says we should completely remove this neurotoxin from childhood vaccines during the first few years of their life,” Weldon added.
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/ar...TICLE_ID=32988
Autism is a severely incapacitating developmental disability for which there is no known cure. According to a recently released report by the California Department of Developmental Services, or DDS, entitled Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Changes in the California Caseload: 1999-2002, the rate of children diagnosed with full-syndrome autism in the Golden State between 1999 and 2002 nearly doubled from 10,360 to 20,377. The report further revealed that "between Dec. 31, 1987, and Dec. 31, 2002, the population of persons with full-syndrome autism has increased by 634 percent." That is a doubling of autism cases every four years, and the staggering increases are not limited to California.
i could go on but the level of reports on this is STAGGERING.
i met a girl on lavalife that had an autistic son and i said, 'let me guess - it was a few days after a vaccination that he switched off' - and sure enough, it was.

One of the biggest reasons our son has had very few vaccinations. The toxic crap in those things is mind boggling. Our own doctor recommended we get almost none of them for him.

Fake. The picture was already there and he slowly erased it. Then they just played the tape backwards.
(j/k - that's how I would fake it! Amazing stuff to see the untapped potential of the human mind)

very good to hear.
quite the cornucopia in those things...
as for the topic there's a good article awhile back in scientifi american aboot 'idiot savants', focusing on kim peek, who is the inspiration for 'rain man'. interestingly his musical talent is the big story there.

Actually.....the point Looger is making is very very valid. My own doctor tells us not to get certain vaccines because of the crap in them.
Wow. I just defended Looger. Cool.

Haha! Hey, in this instance, we are on the same page. You are 100% correct in posting your warnings and more parents need to be aware of the risks with vaccines.

that's the point - we're told a great many things in society today from trusted sources and some of it might not be correct.
when it comes to the health of our children it's important to be informed.
