So this morning I wake up, turn on the old computer to begin work on a paper, and the whole morning my Norton keeps blocking viruses and worms. First things like WinFixer etc... then on to Trojans, Spysearch and Infostealer.

I've turned off System Restore, run Norton and deleted infected files, but I keep getting attacked. I don't know what to do! Help!!!

I got it through MSN somehow I had to format my OS partition... everything on it was lost...

I knew I should've put all my Camp pics on my storage partition. ****

I got an alert this morning too for Winfixer and Norton couldnt get rid of it so I tried AdAware and once it got to scanning it my computer restarted on it's own. Good thing I planned on doing a clean install within the next week or two though I'm thinking of doing it sometime this week now. I thought maybe my neice accidentally installed it somehow when she was on my computer yesterday but if other people are having the same problem maybe it's something else.

Thanks guys. Anymore information on what to do would be appreciated. The fact that I got Infostealer kind of scared me as I do my online banking on this computer. My firewall said it stopped it but it still keeps coming up as an alert.

Pete, in that link there is some information on removing the software. I have yet to encounter this little gem, but the process is described as tedious. There is an application you can download that will do it for you (apparently), but I haven't tried.

I just double checked and it looks like the program Norton caught was SystemDoctor not WinFixer.

I got a virus or something a couple months ago and havn't bothered to try to fix it since all I think it does is change my home page to http://www.messengersite.net/forum/portal.htm . When I change my home site the virus will change it back again within a couple of hours.

How to I get rid of this thing?
