Default Fox News: We're All Going To Die!

Unless of course surveillance on free citizens is increased.

Fox News raises the alarms of a nuclear device in a U.S. city and champions the further degradation of individual freedoms in a special report even a little wacky for them.

Hezbollah 'certain' to nuke major city.

^^^^ It's all about fear. The neo-conservatives have been using that as a strategy for over 20 years. It's worked to keep a ###### in the oval office, so why stop? Expect to see more "threats" in the leadup to the election.

Oh I'm well aware of that, I just wish more people were. Hopefully people seeing reports as weird as this one will start to clue in.

I thought "dirty bombs" were proven to be ineffective. At least I saw a documentary that stated that the radiation caused by "dirty bombs" wouldn't really cause much damage. Wish I could remember what's it's called. Saw it on CBC Newsworld, the title related to fear. Very interesting, basically stated that Al Queda didn't exist in the form presented to us. There were no terror cells etc. Just factions of radicals who decided to act on their own.

^you're speaking of the Power of Nightmares...it was a brilliant UK documentary that elaborates on how both the Fundementalists and the Neocons use fear to cow thier respective peoples into following or accepting their view of the world...very much like Oceana from 1984 which existed solely as the perpetual enemy allowing the government to act however they wished under the auspices of war...

Luckily, for those who haven't seen it, its availble free on google video...three parts each about an hour long...Highly, highly recommended...

Wow, thanks for the link. Just watched episode 1 and will watch the rest later tonight most likely. Funny (in a sad sort of way) but quite scary at the same time.

The part about them all starting to believe their own lies stood out the most for me. I shudder to think lots of the neo-con clowns stirring up fear about the Soviet Union back then (Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Pearle, etc) are still around today. Seems the only thing that's changed since then is were all supposed to be scared of the terrorists now that the Soviet Union has collapsed.

Watch out, any second now we're due for a nukin' ...

hah, but if it does happen, I'm sure that the govt will be trashed for not stopping it, since it will be considered an obvious threat.

Before it happens -> if you bring it up you are fear mongering
After it happens -> you should have stopped it, we warned you.
No way to win.

GREAT documentary series! Well researched and right on the money.

Don't worry, the usual dittoheads will say how much BS that is and how we are all going to die unless we relinquish all of our civil liberties. You know, it is true, the DO hate us for our freedoms! Unfortunately its the neo-conservatives that hate us and want to strip away all of our freedoms.

I guess it's his job to be prepared so maybe convincing himself its definitely going to happen is the best way to make sure he does his job well. I don't know. The organization is a bit strange, a division of the CDC, but based at the University of Georgia. Just seems a little low on the totem pole for me to call him credible.

In my opinion, the time has passed where that scenario even approaches being likely, at least in the US.

I have my doubts that anyone is stupid enough to supply them (even Iran) with a weapon and if they did I have even greater doubt of their ability to get it inside the US undetected.

As for the erosion of personal freedom, I don't see it as a huge issue. I think the intrusions we are experiencing are extremely minor.

It's a talking point for the anti-Bush crowd and exaggerated for their purposes IMO.

Yeah, that's it, a talking point.

Don't worry about your bank records, your health records, and all of you electronic communications being available to the NSA. You don't mind people going through that information. As long as you keep saying stuff like you did in this post, you're in the clear. And don't worry Dis, that post will look really good in your NSA file!

What are they going the find that can hurt me?

I'm of the opinion that if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear.

There should be checks, but I don't have a problem with them monitoring international phone converstations involving people they have under surveillance.

For all you know, the NSA could have been reviewing the information you say they are for decades. We'd have no way of knowing.

Fox shouldn't be putting that kind of stuff on the air.

You're right Dis, they could have. Only problem is that its illegal and any other President would have seen heads roll.

Sorry, I like my privacy. If someone in the government wants to know something, they can ask me. They have no right to look into my personal information without my expressed consent. I would expect you to agree with that. We all have a right to privacy and to liberty. We have little of each left.

I was reading a story in Consumer Reports on RFID. These tags can now be produced for less than a penny each and "makes it possible to electronically pluck SENSITIVE information from thin air." Soon to be coming to a product near you.

Great technology and in use in so many places already. My brother-inlaw and I invesitgated using the technology for a public safety system, but couldn't get buy in from unions. For some reason those that work in public safety didn't like the idea of their bosses knowing where they are every minute of their shift. I guess we should have just sold it, implemented the technology in thier equipment load, and then not let them in on the fact that they are being tracked!

I agree with everything you said except that any other President would have seen heads roll. My suspicion is that every President has engaged in illegal activity of this kind. This one actually changed the law to do it.

You've polled ever person of every other nationality who has access to American media and found that not one of them has developed a paranoia?

Shut up.

Is it me or is every single arguement for Bush currently boiled down to people being anti Bush. It would be as singularly naieve of me to suggest pro Bushy's are just gullable rightwing sheep.

So you are enough of a sample size to make your claim? OK.

I'm not paranoid, nor am I a flag waving, self-righteous American.

I don't make sweeping judgements about people based on where they do or don't live either.

Shut up.
