Default TV/HDMI question

I have a Samsung LCD TV that has HDMI output. My DVD player has HDMI and my Bell HDTV satellite has a DVI->HDMI cable.

The male end on the adaptor is plugged into the back of the TV. I then plugged both HDMI cables from my DVD player and satellite into the female ends of the adaptor. When I go into the "source" menu on the TV, it does not recognize anything. If I leave one of the cables connected, then I get a signal. What would be the problem?

I bought this adaptor piece hoping to connect it altogether. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

You must use a HDMI switcher. Passive devices like what you have don't do anything useful for you.

I'm not even sure what use that thing has.

I think that device is to output one source to two monitors, not two sources to one monitor.

I'd use component cables on one of your devices. The difference between HDMI and component on most tv's is minimal at best. Or you could find a switch or HDMI switching receiver.

If you want to spend some bucks, get the new DVDO scaler, it has HDMI switching and it will upconvert anything inputted to any resolution you like, I saw it at London Drugs for $2300

You need a HDMI switcher because you're trying to output two devices into one monitor (your TV). When you plug both in the TV does not "know" which signal to receive, therefore you get nothing. With a switcher it will tell the TV which signal to receive depending on your input to the switcher, basically it's just slightly more convenient than unplugging and plugging the cables back & forth.

Alternatively you can get a home theatre receiver that has multiple HDMI in/outputs and you can just hook everything up to it. That would be the easiest way IMO.

That thing you have btw is for outputting one device (say, a Satellite box) onto 2 screens (say, you own a bar and you want the game on 2 TVs).

CRXguy: I'm really surprised that you have LCD TV that has HDMI output. Are you sure it's not HDMI input.

I haven't seen any TV that has HDMI output. All the TVs with HDMI interface they're HDMI input not output.

Does anybody know any TV with HDMI output? If you know please let me know the model number because I'm very curious why manufacturer would put HDMI output in TVs

Here's a place you can buy a switch.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...sp?c_id=101&cp

Click on HDMI switch on the left of page.
For convenience, I believe there are also switches operated by a remotes

Actually I'm very curious to know whether there is any TV with HDMI "output" as CRXguy mentioned that he has one. All the TVs that I've seen has HDMI "input". So, I believe there is no TV with HDMI output unless somebody can show me one.

If anybody knows of any TV with HDMI "output" I would really appreciate if you share that info with me.

How about you quit harping on a typo the guy made 6 months ago? He obviously meant input, as he says he is trying to hook a DVD player and a satellite system up; with his TV only having one HDMI connection.

I didn't mean to offend anybody for his/her typo. The purpose of my post was to find out if there any TV with HDMI output out there. This is because I heard from somebody that it exists but still couldn't find one and also if it does exist I wonder what would be the purpose of the HDMI output port.
