Default Lake Louise

Planning a camping trip for sometime in July, I'd love to rent a cabin or even just a hotel room but they're all too expensive.

Favorite spots for camping?

Anyone rent a canoe in lake Louise, I found something on the net saying you can get one from teh Chateau for $38/hr. That can't be the only place?

Well, there's the Lake Louise Campground, but if you want something a little more remote and scenic, Mosquito Creek is nice (surprisingly few mosquitos), something like 15 minutes north of LL. Very scenic. I haven't stayed there, but I've heard that the Kicking Horse Pass campground is also nice.

What sort of vehicle have you got? If you can transport a canoe, probably the cheapest solution is renting in Calgary. If you can't transport one, you're probably stuck with Chateau rental.

There are several campgrounds along HWY 1A (Bow Valley Parkway) that are generally less busy than the main campground at Lake Louise. Last July we stayed at Protection Mountain. It was very peaceful and quiet, except for the mosquitos!

A little further past Mosquito Creek is Water Fowl Lake. It's an amazing place to camp. We try to get up there every year. Quiet, sceanic, great canoing lake, it has it all.

Another 20 min up the road from there and you're at Saskatchewan Crossing where you can get any extra food or fuel you need.

I guess I'll be a knob in saying this but Mrs. Cowperson and I (anniversary) were in the $1,400 a night, 900 sq. ft, two level (spiral staircase), multi-bathroomed, multi-flat-screened tv'd, multi-balconied, lake view, penthouse suite at the Chateau Lake Louise late last week . . . . amazingly, it was well worth it.

I'd highly recommend it if you can't find a good camping spot!!!!

Sorry, I saw this thread and I just had to get that in.

If it helps, I immediately went from the Penthouse one night to walking twelve hours all night in the freezing rain at the Cancer Relay For Life with hundreds of other brave souls . . . . . call it penance for irrational excess.

Mosquito Creek does sound nice, maybe it will be a better idea to stay away from the main campground in Lake Louise. I'll either take the motorbike if I can find a place to rent a canoe right on Lake Louise, or take the car and bring my raft.

I'm going to get a detailed map and check out all the places you guys mentioned, thanks!
