The film shows Hitler's humanity as well as his diabolical nature, as it depicts the final 12 days of his life.

As an addendum, the German far right makes some political gains in recent elections.

An eerie moment for me was walking through World War II concentration camp outside Strasbourg, France with German voices all around me . . . . schoolchildren bussed in for the day.

I'm of the standpoint that I don't really care to know about Hitler's human side, anything that gives him any kind of human aspect is probably a message that we don't want to give out.

There was a brilliant movie on Stalin a few years ago starring Robert Duvall (sp?) And even though they tried to expose a rounder image of Stalin he still came across as a complete monster when dealing with his family in friends.

I understand that Hitler for the most part was the front face for a machine of evil operating in the background, but even the most insane man has to realize that what he was doing wasn't quite square. Thats why I think there was no humanity in there.

He might have been beaten up by a jew when he was younger, who cares. Who cares if his mother was a nutjob and his father beat on him daily. Portray him as a monster who came to a pathetic and non heroic end and we'll go a long way towards making sure that the next hitler isn't out there now.

Strasbourg is a very interesting city. At various times in history it has been part of France and Germany.

http://www.strasbourg.com/

As the intellectual, cultural and economic capital of Alsace, Strasbourg has the scale, the atmosphere and attraction of a big city without overwhelming its citizens. A town to which everyone likes to return because it has always something new and important to say.

Seat of the Council of Europe and of the European Parliament, Strasbourg is the ideal city in which to plan an international congress or seminar. Culturally well endowed, Strasbourg proposes challenging collections in its museums, a lyrical excellence in its Opera house and an ambitious variety of theatrical programms that is world reknown.

The cathedral is magnificant:

I had an eerie moment too. Seeing a war memorial in Berlin was heart-breaking.

Read Antony Beevor's "The Fall of Berlin 1945" and you'll see Hitler had NO human side in the last 12 days of his life.

Speaking of Beevor, I picked up that Stalingrad book you were talking about. What an amazing book.

I agree, Hitler was a murdering madman. Has anyone listened or watched old newsreels of Hitler speeches.I didn't need to speak German to get emotionally carried away. Quite the powefull experience and a good lesson to be wary of over the top nationalism.
