Default Splitting Cable

I've got a cable hook up in my bedroom that is used for my cable internet on my computer. I'd also like to have my tv in my bedroom to have cable but am unsure if i can split the cable going to the internet and run it to my tv without disrupting the net hookup. I'm sure someone here has done it or tried it before and i assume it's possible? Is it? And is it any different then splitting cable between tv's? Thanks guys and/or gals.
P.S. it's not illegal for me since i've paid for unlimited cable hookups in my townhouse, just don't wanna pay the dude to come in and do it for me.

Yes, you can split it. However don't buy the $2 splitter; spend the money and get a $10 one from Rona or Home Depot. They usually say something like "satellite compatable" (Which isn't really accurrate) or have a frequency rating of 2300 Mhz (2.3 Ghz)

You don't need that high of a frequency range for cable, but I found they are less prone to interference (funky lines on your TV.)

You shouldn't have to pay the guy to come and do it. Call Shaw and tell them you need something hooked up and they'll send the feller. I've never had to pay for stuff like that.

No, it won't. I have a similar set up in my house. I live in a 4 level condo with my g/f who owns a laptop. There is one cable outlet on the top floor in the master bedroom. Cable comes out of wall, runs to a good splitter. From the splitter it goes to 2 tv's and my wireless router which connects to two PC's and the laptop and it works no problem. I don't recommend splitting one line that many times but I have not noticed a decline in the picture quality on the TV's and my connection to the net is solid.

Didn't have to pay for the shaw guy to come out? I recently had digital cable hooked up the guy came over spent half an hour fiddling around then i got the bill for 140 bucks! I guess it was my fault for not asking over the phone how much it would cost but it sure seemed a bit expensive to me.

You sure that wasn't the price of the box? Every time those guys come over, they don't seem to charge me save last time when I had them move the cabling around in my basement but that was only like $30.

I've had Shaw in a couple of time to do work and I've never paid either. Always assumed that was part of the monthly fee.

Nope it wasn't the price of the box because i used the one my parents were using before they got bell express-vu. Hmmm maybe i should call them to find out.

Shaw now charges for service calls. I had two new outlets put in upstairs and it cost me $50. This was back in August.

One thing that you might have to do is get your signal boosted if you have some signal degradation. Shaw can do this for you over the phone.
