Default Opening Day for Jays on Tuesday.

Finally.

Just thought I'd start a Jays thread for whomever is interested.

I have been waiting for awhile to see the Jays play again....I love just coming home from work/school, turning on Sportsnet and just sitting down for a few hours.

I'll hopefully be able to see the last half of the game.

Halladay vs. Santana, should be a beauty,

Just 4 hours until gametime.

Very exciting season for the Jays. The hype around this team is huge.

A couple articles to kick things off:

I know for sure last season..since there was no NHL. Everyone was talking about the Jays and how well there going to do. The Jays will stay in 3rd place again.

I'm splitting season tickets this year, so I'm quite excited as well. I haven't been a big baseball fan since the strike in 94, but you've got the give the Jays (well... Rogers) credit for making an effort to build a contender. I think the expectations are much greater this season, given the additions to the roster -- they upgraded five of their nine position players and added the best starter and closer available through free agency.

I think they'll pose a serious challenge to the Red Sox and Yankees, although both of those teams are probably better on paper, right now. I think the Jays pitching will keep them close... but obviously, they've got to be able to score more runs in order to win 90+ games...

Should be a good season... I'm excited.

I will still watch the Jays though since their canadian. In fact..I just purchased the 1993 GM 6 world series of the Jays and Phillies where Joe Carter hit that game winning home run in the 9th. Im downloading it right now. $3.95 good deal!

Thats not true, Jays said last season their goal was to be a .500 team. Sure everyone was excited about Baseball but no-one thought the Jays had a chance at a Wild Card spot.

As for your prediction of the Jays being in 3rd place that could happen but I believe they will push the Red Sox's and the Yanks.

In my view the Jays have better pitching then Boston or New York its the Health factor and hitting that will be the key.

Who is "Everyone"?

Who is "They"?

I don't think there was a single pundent that predicted the Jays would get a playoff spot last season, with good reason- they were not good enough.

This season's a whole new story. On paper this team should be able to compete for a post-season berth.

put me in with the "who is everyone?" crowd. It was nice to see the Jays go out and sign some players last year, but I don't know anyone who thought they'd contend for a division title or anything like that.

I have cautious optimism this year. It'll be fun to watch I'm sure. Fewer people see my Jays jersey and ask "who is this Halladay guy?"

Ok, sure...whatever.

I don't know how a fan of the team cannot be excited about the moves they made.

Arguably their 8 best players are, in no particular order;

Halladay
Wells
Glaus
Ryan
Burnett
Overbay
Hillenbrand
Molina

5 of those guys they didn't have last season! The only player of consequence they gave up was Hudson.

That is a huge improvement, on paper.

Well, the Blue Man Group performed perhaps one of the most unique renditions of the anthems I've heard in a while...

The new guys come up huge in the 4th inning for the Jays.

Glaus double, Overbay Single, and Molina with a 5th deck homerun.

3-1 Jays.

Stewart and Wells both with fantastic catches at the wall as well.

The 50,000 at the game are certantly getting their moneys worth.
