Nice to see Poirier getting a QO.
With Morin graduating to the AHL next year, and a glut of D prospects like Solo, Kuznetsov, Grushnikov, and Brustewich trying to push for a spot in the NHL, he'll need to have a standout year.
Jurmo and possibly Hurtig will also be pushing for AHL time as well.

I hope this means that Kuznetsov and Poirier are going to be given a long look with the big club. I would much rather see them try and take the next step instead of watching another Barrie-style vet signing hold the spot.

They will often qualify players in that situation just to keep their rights because they know they don't have to actually give him a contract and he might decide to try North America again sometime.
In this case, it looks like he's signed a contract back home for two years and will be 27 years-old when it expires, so the Flames would lose his rights then anyway.

Frost = $2.4 million
Zary = $874,125
The other four are all $813,750.

Will Poirier ever get over that AHL hump? Seems like he’s been in the AHL for a long time, with no long NHL stints. Hes ok the couple of times I watched the wranglers each year , but just a career AHLer?
